There is a new gun in town, well it's more like a train, because Boundary Trails Railway Company (BTRC) is officially in business.
The Manitoba government has committed $615,000 towards the purchase of 140 km of CP Rail line from Manitou to east of Killarney.
Although BTRC is planning to salvage most of the line, it is also looking to operate a 35 km stretch of the line from Manitou to Morden.
The company has contracted Canadian Central Railway to pull their cars and they have already secured a general manager to run operations for the new railway company.
The short-line is expected to begin running by late May or early June.
