New to Trainz

I have not taken any time to really read the manual yet. I had a few questions as a beginner, I previously had Microsoft version of Train Simulator some years back and it was pretty easy to navigate and run. I have done all of the tutorials in Trainz 12, But I had some questions if some members can help. How do you create new routes and scenarios? How do you load or install downloads of new rolling stock that you purchase from planet Auran ? Other than the tutorials I don't even see any other tasks or routes or other railroads in different parts of the United states ? How do you get these types of activities to work or install them. Any help or getting me in the right direction is greatly appreciated""

In the routes list, there is "Create new Route" up in the upper left. As far as new content, when you start the game there should be "Content Manager". You'll need to of registered your game on Auran first. In the content manager you can also Import files. They are in the form of "*.cdp". You can either drag & drop or use the Import command under File. If there are dependencies and if they are in the download station they should automatically be downloaded. Occasionally there are unknown dependencies (usually found on the providing website, or at least listed). If you still have trouble finding the files needed, the forums are here to help. :)

Welcome to the Trainz forums rogercom.

As HiddenTruth as said if you register your version of Trainz you will get a lot more out of it . Many members of the forums are very helpful if you have problems. Dont be afraid to ask for help no matter how trivial the question is. Read the CoC and be polite. Dont be what we call a "Gimme pig". That is some one wanting stuff as soon as they see it. Requests are often thought about. And any information for a request will be helpful. Being polite is always welcome and so is patience as some creators will take time in producing assets. Once again welcome to the world of Trainz and say good-bye to life outside of the world of Trainz.

Regards Dave.

Welcome to Trainz. I am relative new at Trainz my self and maybe tried to advance to fast by putting together a route that included the Horseshoe curve which is located in Altoona, Pa and another route I call the Enola Rutherford which is located around Harrisburg, PA.

I went into starting these routes without much knowledge of Trainz and all of its features. I soon found out that that I should have taken it a bit slower and checked on several basic things first before putting a lot of time on the graphics. Some things that I would suggest you study and experment with on a flat baseboard are:
1. Laying track. When you start running the trains, you will find out that the way (direction) that the track is placed is very important. Try to lay the track in the direction that you want the trains to run;
2. Signals. The placement of the signals which create your blocks and prevent trains from crashing into each other is important.
3. "AL" is a term that you will soon learn. What that is is the term that is used for the trains that you place on your route that are run by the commands that you give them. They will actually navagate on their own from places that you designate;
4. Speed markers need to be placed along your track to control the speed of your trains;
5. One final thing is Portals. These are used to generate new trains and also place for trains to go when they have finished a particular route or job.

i have been with Trainz 12 since November and find that everyday is a day that I learn something new.

What I wish Trainz had was a :BOOK: that explained everything in more detail than the manual does.

Good luck
Richard

Hi assorted newbies :)

@ Richard:

1. Track 'Direction' is an old wives tale, urban myth, call it what you will but it is irrelevant to anything other than which side of the track attached assets default to. The 'rotate' button fixes that.

2. Signals matter! 'Blocks' though are a bit dangerous unless you are using the latest signals!

3. "AL"? AI is 'Artificial Intelligence' hence "AI Drivers" are those that are run by the program. The level of 'intelligence' is a matter of ongoing debate!

There isn't a 'BOOK' but the forum is pretty good....

Andy :)
