New to Trainz

Hello,

I just purchased the Trainz for Mac which I believe is the 2010 version. So far I am really enjoying it. I had a couple of newbie questions though.

1. It says I can get an owner's manual as a pdf, but I can't seem to find a path to this.

2. I am playing the first session in the Downtown Traction Company Route and it said that after finishing several switching movements to contact the yardmaster for more assignments...yeah...how do I do that?

Other than being a total railroad Noobie I am enjoying running them rather than watching them go by the house.

Thanks for any help. I appreciate it!

Hi wi71383bee,

Unless your version is from the Mac App Store, can you register your serial number? (Click Planet Auran above, then Serial Number on the left, then fill in the form)

If it is the Mac App Store version, you need to contact Helpdesk.

This will enable access to the Trainz Mac forum, where you are more likely to get the answer you need.

Shane

P.S. Welcome to the forums.

About The Owner's Manual
I Would Contact The Helpdesk About That

Hello all.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to locate and download the users manual through the help desk. thanks all for helping.

I was wondering if there is more Milwaukee Road stuff available like additional sessions or routes...any hemp would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello,

Welcome to trainz. For Milwaukee road stuff, try searching for it on the download station by searching Milwaukee road or search the user "tume". There are also a couple of Milwaukee road items over at RRmods.com. Hope this helps.

Brandon

P.S. if you need help with accessing the download station, let me know. However, I think you will have to register your version of trainz first. You can buy a FCT for faster download speeds on the DLS, however I have never perchased one and I do just fine. Just a personal preference thing.

Sorry, but you don't. In some of my other sessions you might also see words like "Sign off and go home" which, of course, you can't do either.

It's just a way of finishing off.

Okay Thanks phil. That makes sense. BTW I like the Sessions you created. They are very fun little switching runs. I probably would not last 2 days on a real RR but I am learning.

You don't happen to have more sessions made for it do you?

Thanks,

Yeas I have seen tume's videos on youtube. They area favorite of my 17 mo old son.

As for downloading since I bought the game through the MAC Apps page i do not seem to have the access key. Does that mean i can only download by buying a pass?

Just curious. Thanks.

Hmmm..I do not know. You may want to try contacting the help desk. I have never bought my versions of trainz from auran, I always get them from other places and mine always came with the numbers to register. I am not familiar with Mac though so I don't know.. :confused:Brandon

You seem to have registered the game through N3V, so you should be allowed to access the DLS. Just enter the same username, password, and serial number in the Settings. If that doesn't work, that's the time to contact the Help Desk.

I don't have TS Mac myself, I got that information from the manual available online: http://www.trainzportal.com/trainzmac/TSmac_Manual.pdf, page 9.

No, but there are others

Thanks.

More sessions for DowntownTraction? Only if you can use TS12 on a Windows PC.

But on the assumption that your Mac version is the same as my TS10 and on the assumption that you can download assets from the Download Station you might like to try some of my TS10 routes and sessions.

Search here:

http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php

with "philskene" in the "Text Search" box, select "Username", a tick against "TS2009 SP4/TS2010" and then for "Category" = Layouts then Session. You should find Krashnburne, IntenCity and IndustRail.

One of the challenges with the first two is to navigate the route without bumping into one of the pesky AI trainz. Stay cool and keep a good lookout for them.

You might also find that some of my earlier routes/sessions from TRS2004 will work if you have Compatibility Mode in the Mac version. Then you can use HarborMaster.

I too am a Mac user. This program is so complicated and does so many neat things, I'm appalled that there is no user's manual (I'm not talking about that little 60 page blurb you can download) you can purchase like the service manuals you can buy for automobiles. If you go to "Help", they simply refer you to this forum, which is great, but I'd hate to have to replace a cluster gear in the transmission of my sportscar using a forum.

Hey Rixer,

I hear you. I am enjoying the game, but I think that it is geared towards experienced users who have had prior versions. As a newbie I am having some difficulty in navigating around and figuring out how to do things.

The download station is my latest challenge. I figured out that i can download specific files through the "manage Content" section on the startup screen, but it is so clunky and weird I am sure I am not getting everything. Plus it seems that I have to get every little file out there to make a complete session. I am sure there is an easier way. The manual is useless on this. It basically says the manage content area is where you can download content from outside sources...really...thanks...that helped. When I go through planet Auran I can download using the ftp option and I get a compressed packet of files, but I can't figure out where to put them. I am sure this is a windows vs MAC thing...

Still fun though!

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. Yes, the program is complex, and can be a bit intimidating.
Sessions are tough, because they require not only the KUIDS from the DLS, but sometimes locomotives and rolling stock from other sites. That's where it gets interesting. I advise everyone to download what they are after, and then check the download in the CM main window to see if there are missing dependencies. Even KUIDS from the DLS sometimes do not pick up on some dependencies that are required by the dependencies! A locomotive, for example is made up of many parts, and may use dependencies both on or off the DLS. Some dependencies may be faulty, and then fail to show up as they need to be be fixed before use.

If you do find out that a dependency is not on the DLS, you can Google the KUID, and that usually will show you where to find it. Best of luck to you, and welcome!

Thanks for the advice. I must stress that I am still enjoying everything very much. I think its more my inexperience than anything. I am starting to figure things out in the content manager. I think that is where access to the data is. I already just downloaded a couple Milwaukee road sessions but it seems I need to find other files for rolling stock and scenery to get it complete.

Don't worry about the inexperience; it's curable. I ran Microsoft Train Simulator for 10 years, then switched to Trainz and found myself a rank beginner again. Now I'm seeing the same thing again because I've started playing with Railworks 2012. Starting over again!

But it does get easier.

I'm sure that we newbies will eventually learn the program, although I'm still confused as to why there isn't a complete user's manual. All the great programs have them: Word, Excel, etc. In any case as a steam era person, I'd love to be able to use some of those great locos designed by Ben Neal. I can't get one to download. They all have missing dependencies and Mr. Neal doesn't answer emails. But thanks for the input.

You'll find documentation to be much better for programs aimed at business, rather than programs aimed at pleasure.

As far as Ben's locomotives go, please start a thread and post the kuids you need if you can't find them by Googling. I know many people use them in many versions, so the fix is out there!
