Arrived yesterday: Trainz 2010 (Engineer's Edition)
It seemed to install ok on my Windows 7 - passed the Hardware check that occurred on 1st start-up - but computer crashes when using Trainz.
Especially in Tutorials.
Seems to crash randomly - different stages during a tutorial.
Do I need a patch?
What do I need to do?
Thanks in anticipation.

Welcome to Trainz!

Do you happen to know the specifications of your computer?
Do you regularly play other resource-hungry games without issue?
Do you keep track of your computer's (or laptop's) temperature?

I'm no computer buff...
I'm trying to run Trainz 2010 on an Acer Aspire Laptop.
Specs:
Intel Core i3-380M with Intel HD GRaphics, 4GB DDR3 Memory and 500GB HDD
No - I've never tried playing games before
Don't measure any temp: but it does get hot underneath

You will find that the acer is over heating and shutting down - had the same problem on a Acer Aspire

Desktop PC's are superior to laptops, in every way, especially with a high CPU demanding simulator like Trainz is ... I don't think there is a more CPU demanding game than Trainz is !

If TS12 runs on your laptop, without turning it into a personal laptop genital heater sterilization unit, T:ANE might run on it

However an overheating laptop may have done irreparable damage to your CPU chip, and it may be partially fried, or the heat sink grease is cooked dry.

Generally an overheating laptop ... is not for Trainz

You may want to invest in one of those inexpensive laptop coolers and set your power saving profile to high performance. The cooler will run you about $30 US ($31.97 AUD) and is powered off of the USB ports. There are various brands including TARGUS and Belkin, among others.

By setting your power profile to high performance, this will keep the fans running all the team and help keep your laptop cool.

Hope this helps. In general laptops are not recommended for Trainz due to the performance requirements of a graphics and CPU intensive program. That is, unless you invest in one of the higher-end portable gaming machines which are capable of handling this kind of program due to their increased cooling and venting.
