i recently purchased simulator 2010 engineers edition for my son and have been trying to download items, but everything that i have tried thus far has said content is invalid. what exactly is that and why, if it is invalid, hasn't it been removed? i am simply trying to find some steam locos and thomas the tank for him to run and have become extremely frustrated by this.

is there some trick to this that i am not aware of? it seems that anything you add to the cart is invalid, but when you go to the download page, auran accepts no responsibility for what occurs.

From your message it seems that you are using the "Download Cart" on the Trainz website to select a list of download items. I no longer use the download cart because of the problem you mentioned (and do not know why it is still present on the web site),

Instead, I select the Download Helper option for each item I want to download as this performs the same function as the "Download Cart" but more efficiently. This option starts the download immediately, by using the CMP program which controls the download and automatically gets all the dependencies of each selected item - something the Download Cart never did if I remember correctly.

The disadvantage of this method is that the latest items, those with todays date and perhaps yesterdays date, shown on the download station are not always correctly picked up by CMP but waiting a few days often solves this problem. Alternatively, if you really must "have it now" then there is the more complex Download Page option which uses your web browsers FTP facility to copy the asset file directly to your hard disk and you then have to import it into Trainz.

the download helper does not work for me at all...

...everytime i use this i get an error message, typical of internet explorer

Could it be a problem with your firewall?

The only option then left to you is to use the Download Page which, after you select it (there is usually a short delay with a blank screen - just be patient) you will be offered the choice of:
  • Download (using Download Helper) - avoid this as you have already indicated that it does not work, and
  • Download (ftp) (via direct FTP link) - select this option.
... there may be another short delay with a blank screen but eventually you should see a dialogue box giving you the choice between opening the file (usually with CMP) or saving the file - select the save option. The file (a Trainz .cdp file) will be downloaded into your browsers download folder.

You can repeat the above operations with any number of files.

You will have to manually install the downloaded files into Trainz by starting the Content Manager Plus (CMP) program then select Import .cdp's from the main menu. Locate your browsers download folder and then select one (or even all) the .cdp files which will have filenames starting with "kuid". This will import them into Trainz.

Have you tried simply ignoring the 'Content is invalid' message in the download cart? I do, and everything downloads fine...
