New to Surveyor

Hi Everyone,

First can I say a big thank you to all the content creators both Freeware and Payware as I enjoy them all.

I am not new to Trainz as a driver but I have now started to explore what I can do in surveyor and this is my first post to the Forum. Judging from many of the posts in this forum I am not alone in having problems in creating new sessions for existing routes.
I chose the Payware route Marias Pass X which has the base session provided and As I wanted to try some new JR locomotives before I added them to other routes I decided to create a test session from Whitefish to Shelby with a 3000 ton consist behind the selected Loco combination. I thought I had kept it simple, I used the built in 3000 ton US freight consist and placed it on the main line next to the Yard where I placed and connected the Loco’s. I saved as a new session with a new name.
When I run the session I do not have signals except for two between Whitefish and Paola, first problem was a missing section of double track near Coram and then a missing bridge before the tunnel at Paola. That is the end of the line so far for my session.
The sessions supplied with the route all have all the assets I seem to be missing but when I look in the base session the omissions seem to be present. How do I start to fix the issues without changing the route or the other sessions?

TS12 is a clean install with no missing dependencies, no faulty assets, no faulty dependencies and all local assets up to date.

I am using a fully patched TS12 running on a Core i7 3930k 3.2GHz CPU with an NVIDIA GTX68 GPU and 16GB DDR3 memory.

Best Regards

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the darker side of Trainz with surveyor and sessions! :)

I think I know what you did and it's an easy fix.

This to me sounds like you've edited the route-layer instead of a session. With TS12 there are layers and they are tied to how Trainz operates when it comes to placing driving consists. Now, Marias Pass X has an additional session for editing and creating your own operations.

Instead of editing the route and creating a session, where you'll lose everything, go to the Sessions for route. Click on the route and choose sessions like you're going to drive them. There is the blank session, I can't remember what it is called at the moment, for editing. You can then edit your consists, placing any kind of train you wish to drive or have AI drivers drive. When you're done, save the session and you'll have one, under your user ID so it doesn't wreck the original, that you can drive and hack at any way you wish.

If you want to modify the route, it will save a copy under your user ID that you can modify. The caveat here is you'll lose any previously created sessions and you'll have nothing but an open route to place trains on which of course are done in the sessions.

Hi Bob,
Welcome to surveyor!
Once you have changed a route/session go to content manger fine the route/session and make a CDP of it save it to your desk top, right click the desk top and make a new folder name it CDP's put your
new CDP's in there.
Now if you loose or forget to save your work you will have a back up to start from there. It a litter more work but better then loosing hours of work.

Hi Guys, Thanks for your help, John you are right I have overwritten the route and as I write this I am reinstalling the rout and upgrading it to 4.2. When that is done I will explore the layers to try an make sure I do not repeat the school boy error again. I will then take Danny5;s advice and create the back up cdp files. All very sound advice thanks again for your help. Best Regards Bob D
