NEW ROUTE

just need the locos and rolling stock

Hi hwtidd,

You seem not to understand that... IF... and it is a big IF.... if someone were to create what you "need" is a 2~3 YEAR project. DO NOT hold your breath waiting for this to happen.

You may just want to use other locos and rolling stock or create what you "need" yourself.

BTW, I lived in Visalia from 1997 to 2004. How are all the :) Happy Cows:) (along the 198) in Hanford?

Have fun,

Hey kid; lighten up. I didn't know you were only 14.
Unfortunately, I don't have any expertise in creating content either. But if and when I do, it will be mostly New Jersey stuff; CSX NYS&W and NS.
I've already created a huge route, CSX River Line about 150 miles long, but it isn't very detailed yet.

As for creating content; I would love to do that, but right now I need something that would pay my bills:D

to all who visit this thread I can make the route myself and if someone could make the rolling stock and engines please?
Check out some of the tutorials for creating content with Blender or GMAX, both free programs. While I have never really worked with either, maybe you have some time to play around. It might be fun, and then you could create all the content you want, and then upload it for the rest of us to use, and you would get that good feeling of having created something that others want, and will get many thanks for doing so. Eventually, if you get good enough at it, you might be able to create content that is worthy of being payware, and actually earn a little money from it.

I'm not exactly sure where to find these tutes, but if you search on the forums you might find it. If I do, I'll let you know.

the cows are doing good and the 198 from Visalia to Hanford is getting extended there is going to be a 4 lane highway no 2 for each direction.

thank you sorry about being jerk

bro, i'm 15 and I reskin all the time. nut up and jump right in, you might be surprised how easy things are once you actually give them a try.

-Domo... you do have a very good skill indeed! i would love to hack the matrix and have your reskining skills. i'm a lot older than you and im close to a noob route builder and thats it lol!
-hwtidd: if u change your attitude maybe Domo and others here might be nice enough to give you some hints and tips or if your lucky a re-skin. demanding things won't get you sh*t. trying looking for what you want and if you cant find what you are looking for, learn a program and make it yourself or try asking politely. with only 36 posts and maybe counting, you stepped in here on the wrong foot, now is the time to redeem yourself.
-just my 2 cents!

It does look interesting and I'm currently scoping the section from McCloud to Mt Shasta in Transdem. Albeit only 12 miles or so but a start.

No promises though and if something does appear from my factory in due course no guarantee it will resemble the prototype to any degree of accuracy.

Q. to the OP - do you have access or link to a gradient profile?

I love threads like these, thank you for taking the time to post a thread like this.

Hi GUYS! CAN I HAVE THE FOLLOWING PLEASE?????!!!!!????

CAN I GET A PAPER MILL THAT LOOKS REALLY GOOD, SOME ROLLING STOCK THAT LOOKS GOOD TOO?

AND CAN I ALSO GET SOMEONE TO BUILD THE CITY OF SEATTLE TO SCALE TOO PLEASE?

OH AND I NEED THESE LOCOMOTIVES AS WELL:

SD40
M420
H16-44
Pennsy K4
GF6C
E44
B36-7
U18C
44-Tonner
NF210
GMD1u
ES44DC
8-40CM
ALCO RS-27

AND CAN I GET THESE IN SUPER COOL PAINT? LIKE A BNSF + UP + NS + KCS + CP RAIL PAINT SCHEMES?

THANKS GUIZE.

Rofl.

If you can find other people who share your interest, and who also have the skillz, make a team and get down to it.

Other than that, I say good luck to you. :D

Just to re-state, I have been looking for an interesting but reasonably short line to build in either Trainz and/or Railworks and I can confirm the section from Shasta over to McCloud has caught my interest. To make it worthwhile, the winding climb up from Dunsmuir on the SP/UP main line might also be included.

Anyhow, to repeat my earlier request. If the OP is genuinely interested in seeing at least part of this route in one form or another - are there any online (free) resources to see track plans/charts and gradient profiles; I can't see any on the site mentioned or those I can find via Google/Wikipaedia.

With regard to the route, I did a "rough and ready" spline placement for the main track between Shasta and McCloud. To be honest I don't think it's going to work as, even just averaging the gradients, many stretches require 4% (1 in 25) or steeper to keep pace with the terrain changes. In fact looking at one of the sites mentioned the "ruling" gradient is actually 4.7%. Last time I tried building a route - the Flam line of Norway - in TRS (or RW for that matter) with such gradients it was an unmitigated disaster as the game algorithms just couldn't keep up even in AI. Particularly with the time it can take in TRS to set and lap the brakes and difficulty doing a partial release you're just going to run away down those hills.

I presume the real road used/uses modified locomotives with enhanced braking performance.

A shame as the scenery could look quite nice, but not ploughing through it with an out of control SD45!

Vern:

I think you'll find that Trainz will run just fine on a grade of 4.7%. Our depiction of the DHR contains grades ranging upwards to 10 and 12% and the engines/rolling stock work just fine. The real DHR has these grades and run them many times daily with motive power that was built in the 1890's.

I was forgetting the DHR Bill, although I admit to relaxing and letting the AI drive on that. I mentioned the Flam branch as a couple of years ago I actually got it quite advanced scenically even down to some nice cascading waterfalls. However took an (Italian) electric loco and four of the Eurofima coaches and - whoosh, took off down the hill like a bat out of hill! Of course the real Flam branch does have specially modified rolling stock and a loco at each end to provide additional brake force.

Initially we were worried about the very same thing, wheel slippage and thrilling downhill runs. We have several DVDs of the real DHR and every one of them does indeed have a lot of wheel slippage. There are two crewmembers sitting on the pilot of the engine that have nothing to do but drop sand on the rails for traction. On wet, foggy, rainy days they are constantly throwing sand.

The max speed attained by these little trains is around 10 miles/hour. Between each car is a brakeman that jumps up and down on a huge lever that controls braking on downhill runs. It would have been a real treat to have animated both the sanders and the brakemen, but that would have loaded down the GPU pretty heavily.

If you want a real thrill, use the tiny motorcar with the canopy and start just downhill from Batasia Loop. unlock the brakes and let it build up speed.

Digging a bit deeper into the McCloud River web resources it does seem train lengths for the most part were fairly short and operating speeds low. I'm not sure how that would translate into a driving experience in a train sim, as going at 15 MPH for 12 miles through dense forest is going to get a bit tedious. I suspect some compromise would be needed in that area.

I scrapped my first attempt at the route as I couldn't get the Libre maps to line up quite right in Transdem and there's not enough detail on the Google/Yahoo maps that also come out very blurred on the terrain. However looking on another thread I think the Transdem author has sorted the issue with MS changing the Terraserver, which will allow US topo maps to be overlaid along the route. At the moment I must confess to starting the route off in Railworks  :n: (purely as an exercise) but a Trainz version is still on the cards. I've also managed to make contact with someone who is looking to see if they can resource the gradient profile and detailed trackplan.

thanks for all the info as beeing a noob route builder and having a slow computer I am just going to make the pondosa rail brach or the Sierra rail branch both are really short I will do my reseach and build the route and reskin the locos since I have tried to download the correct locos which did not work so I will use the closet enginges I can get thanks have a great life everyone.
