Your right Colhad, I'd be interested in it if and anything else than American content and some British content appears .

Unless they texture bake the rendered data into the game, the renders will always look better, because they have all the special effects, including ambient occlusion (google it).

But the game engine doesn't do realtime ambient occlusion, so it'll all be in the textures.

(in other words, 3rd party content will have to be really well done to match the base game)

Cheerio,
John

I'm fairly sure I saw somewhere on their website that the renderer they're using is made to match the sim's rendered. In other words, if it's true, those renders do show what the objects will look like in-game.

And if that's the case, they're gorgeous. (Well, they are anyway, but it'd be nice to see 'em like that in-game :p)

That's why I'll reserve judgment until it's released and some people start posting screen shots. Those renders do look nice though.

No , it's not all in the textures at all - what you're not seeing in the renders is what the shaders will add - look at the cab shots again and tell me what's missing .

hmm looking at everything, I see decent weathering, extremely poor modeling, and very out of scale models.

Ummm explain please?
These models look far better than anything produced for MSTS, TRS, or KRS, please find me a model of a SD40-2 from one of those sims that is better than that model, thats everthing not just default content. As for default content the TRS SD40-2 looked like a 4 year old made it, the MSTS one was decent but severly limited by MSTS's graphics limitations, KRS's was ok but still not that great a model compared to 3rd party models.

It's fairly self explanatory............

Decent weathering: Like I said decent, I've seen much better from un-paided people. I expect much higher than freeware, for a $60 (or so) game, from a large company.

Extremely poor modeling: for what they are, there are many areas that need more polys, and just as many, if not more areas where polys can be saved, many Trainz freeware exceeds MSTS2 quality, and at least from general looks, without sacrificing performance.

Out of scale: Having the plans to the GEVO, and the SD40-2 In a rough comparison the models are extremely poorly measured, short in some areas, long in others. Out of scale is out of scale.

Yes the Auran default content is old, we've been through that. But it was also made with the original version of Trainz, which at the time was the best it could do. It's unfair and unbalanced to compare Trainz default with MSTS2 default. Why? Trainz while it has evolved and has much higher quality content (SPORBUST as an example with his SD40-2's), MSTS2 is starting from SCRATCH, not building off of previous models. You can't compare an evolved sim with a new sim. If you must compare two, compare KRS with MSTS2 (which btw suffers the same problem in both programs).

And FYI the MSTS2 SD40-2 looks like a blind 4yr old made it.
