New guy has a couple questions

Hello.

I am fairly new to Trainz yet. I have only had my games for a week, but I am forced to ask myself why I didn't get any sooner. I enjoyed my time with Microsoft Train Simulator, but Trainz 2009 and 2010 are proving to be my favorite.

So my first question. I bought a Trainz Simulator '2 Pack' at Target, so I got the 2009 World Builder and the 2010 Engineer Edition. When I first installed the game, I had access to a lot of stuff that was clearly not default to the game. Is this normal for Auran games?

Secondly I am a huge fan of American railroading (Being from the US and all.. ) but I have lately come to enjoy some Russian trains also. I like the sort of dopey-looking CHME3 diesels and the beautiful P-36 steam engines. I've already gone looking for a P-36 loco and I see no one has made one yet. I found a website for Russian trainz and downloaded a pack of CHME3 locomotives from the website. (Found here: http://trainzup.com/?p=68#more-68 )

I literally just finished the installation. I went to the railyard mode of 2010 and the game will not render the locomotives. It knows they are supposed to be there, since they're on the list, but they are apparently invisible. Is this a regional code incompatability, or am I trying to stick a 2012 mod into a 2010 game? I'd love to have a reason to update to 2012, but this computer can't quite handle it.

Like I said, the game knows they are in there, but they do not display.

By purchasing these versions of Trainz you have access to the Trainz "Download Station" but only until until September 2014 (End of Support Date for these). The Download Station (DLS) is a repository of models (assets) made by Trainz users and published for free. When support ends you can still get access to the DLS by purchasing a First Class Ticket (FCT). See: http://www.simulatorcentral.com/index.php/simulators.html?cat=22 .

As you have discovered there are some "external sites" that also have assets for download - some Trainzers prefer to publish their models on these.

Re the vanishing loco this could be a number of things, without downloading the model and checking I can't be sure what the problem is. First step is to have a look at the model in Content Manager and see if it has a red or yellow marker against it.

Enjoy your Trainzing !!

Hello,

If you're a fan of Russian Loco's check this website. http://rzd-stal.3dn.ru/load/parovozy/8

There's two very nice Russian steamers. Just click on the Name above the train and you will find -------- (how many megabytes.)

If you're interested in payware here, http://trainzone.com.ua/en/product/steam-locomotive.

Oh and check this thread http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...n-L-class-2-10-0-on-Krashnburne-a-new-session.

Regards,

Raphael.

Thanks for the links. I will have to take a look tomorrow as I am about to turn my keyboard into a pillow.

I actually just looked to make sure. Each loco file lists nine missing dependencies, but I can't even tell if they are on Content Manager right now since it refuses to let me log in at this time.

Missing dependencies is one of the problems with downloading from external sites, very often they are not included with or referenced by the parent asset - which means you have to chase around the net trying to find them (this is one reason why I generally only use the DLS). Try a Google search for the missing assets KUID numbers (UID) and/or name, or check out the site you downloaded from.

Or try this:

http://www.trainzkuidindex.com/

The Trainz Kuid Index, which references the site(s) you can find the kuids on. You will have to do them one at a time, so R-click the asset with the missing dependencies in Content Manager, click View Dependencies, select the missing ones (hold down the Shift key and select the first and the last), R-click the selection and click Copy to Clipboard, paste into Notepad and copy and paste into the text box in Trainz kuid index one at a time.

If they're available, you will be able to select the site, go there, find the kuid and DL.

Good luck.

Thank you Ken, your link is doing the railroad's work for sure.

I never specifically asked, will content intended for TS12 work in my 2010 game or will it just break everything? Just my very first KUID search here shows that the CHME3 pack I got needs sound effects from TS12.

I see the actual problem, though. It seems my first download was only about half of what I needed, as all the KUID's I searched for traced back to a second CHME3 'detail' pack from the same website. Could be that I just got a standalone thing for people who don't need to re-download a bunch of stuff they already have.

Game still says it's missing a shadow mesh, but other than that, Content Manager does not show any errors with the locomotives.

Backwards compatibility is often possible but forward compatibility would be difficult. If the TS12 object was built without any of the new features available in the newer version, then it could be done if the version number is also adjusted. But if anything new was used, then you would be out of luck. You will need to upgrade to use new features.
