New Graphics card, need help please

I just got a Nvidia GTX 650, im still experiencing lag with trainz at medium ingame settings, stock card settings

I have a Quad Core processor
and 6 gigs of ram 5.93 usable.

i use rrmods locomotives, jointed rail cars, jointed rail track, High Qaulity textures, and Pofig trees. i only got a boost of about 5-6 frames over my old card a GT610.

Ok, let me see here if I can remember this right. So I have a Brand new Graphics card, getting tons of lag. Also we have a brand new power supply to handle everything. Check out your power supply first. That may be where you are have trouble. It needs to be able to handle everything on your computer. Then your mother board is a big problem. Im am just ordering a new one to replace the old one now. We also had to get new RAM and a Intel core Proccessor I think. I can help you more probably. Do you have skype or something?

550W power supply 12V to the card as suggested, infact i cranked the ingame settings allthe way up as well as the card and i got around 20FPS which is about 10 more than what i was getting! which is really puzzling.

Specs
Quad Core 2.00GHZ
GTX 650
6GB of ram 1 on card so 7 total
550W power supply

This is weird. My computer has a teribite of memory. However mother board is out now so time to replace it. I still have to run Trainz with the settings down like tree detail and draw distance. Try lowering that stuff. Dont worry about texture detail though. mainly scenory, trees, and drawing distance.

I agree its VERY weird, i cant explain it either, im running 10 so i cant control trees detail but i can control scenery detail and draw distance. the reason i choose POFIG is i cant find any good billboard trees and grass that do not have halo that cant be taken out with Super Sampling.

Try the trees by Clam1952

Back on topic, re the graphics card - have you considered that the card itself may be faulty ? Would be worthwhile checking.

GTX 650, Initially run on default Nvidia control panel settings apart from change to maximum performance and single display performance. Use DirectX not OpenGL and see how that goes.

"550W power supply 12V to the card as suggested,"

The card can take/use/need a maximum of 126watt on the 12 volt rail, can your psu supply that ?
It is a PCI express 3.0 card, does your mobo support this, if not you will not get the cards potential.
Run trainz at your monitors default resolution, also set resolution the same in nvidea control panel.

I cant find any info on whether or not the my board is PCIE 3.0 i just bought the computer new last year i imagine it would be. and i dont think the graphics card would work if it couldnt supply the suggested power. my computer and Nvidia CP are both set to 1024x768

"and i dont think the graphics card would work if it couldnt supply the suggested power. my computer and Nvidia CP are both set to 1024x768"

All psu's have a 12 volt rail, they vary on the ampage they put out on it.
I have a gtx 560 O/C pci express 2.0 running on a pci-e 1 socket, therefore I won't get the cards potential output. I didn't check my mobo.
Have you set trainz to run at 1024x768 as well.

I have, and the aspect ratio at 4:3 as well. the refresh rate is set to auto as i have a CRT monitr rather than a LCD, and i have it set to Full Rate as well, if i dont do that trainz doesnt like it and it crashes.

Is 1024x768 the monitors native resolution? just not many people using that size screen these days and if resolution is not at native for a flat screen monitor it won't run too well in Trainz.

Edit:

Posted at the same time, guess that's not the problem then.

heres a photo of one of the routes im having trouble on, this is the least laggy part, to the left there is a grain elevator and another packing warehouse by JR and a few other assets by JR, i just found clams trees, AWESOME! but either way im only getitng 14 FPS just in this simple scene.

In driver, main menu, options, developer, tick box show performance stats in driver. Then a screenie please.

Find and replace the worst buffer count kuid, it's reckoned anything with a count of over 100 will impact on performance.
It's a jvc grass spline by jankvis.

i was looking at 16GB of ram, would that help me at all?

No point just for trainz, I have 8gig and rarely use over 4gig no matter what I'm doing. Using 38% at the moment with a big route running and about 12 Ai's shuffling about on schedules, plus 3 browsers open.
Another thought. Clone the route and start replacing assets that have a high buffer count. I sense you don't want to mess with the original.
