New Forum look

CM2 supersedes the website for downloading content. There are better search and filter options and as far as I know, no shortcomings.

I'd love to hear from anyone who prefers the web interface to the new CM2 interface for finding and downloading content. If you do have a reason (and I'm happy to hear if you do) then please be specific about why your prefer the 2004 interface.

Thanks

Tony

I prefer the web interface, purely because I've found it to be more up to date than CMP/CM2. I do use CMP/2 to find content, but there are many times where an item has been listed as a dependency, CMP/2 doesn't find it on the DLS, and yet a search on the webpage will find it... Click on download(helper) and away CMP/2 goes downloading this 'unknown location' item :)

It's also nice to know how many times an item has been downloaded, which CMP/2 doesn't show. It gives the creator an indication of how popular that item is, and hence allows them to try and predict how popular other similar items might be :)

Can you give examples of specific items where the 2004 website will find things that CM2 (forget CMP) won't.

Thanks

Tony

Not really, it's generally fairly random.

It might actually be caused by CMP/2 seeing an item listed as kuid:122285:4089 and the actual asset being kuid2:122285:4089:2

It might also be that CMP/2 is too strict when searching for a kuid, in that it looks for the EXACT kuid in the config, when the version number may actually be off by 1. Or it lists a 'kuid' instead of a 'kuid2', and therfore reports it as not being on the DLS.

What I do know is that I often have to force CMP/2 to download a file from the DLS that it says has an 'unknown location'.

Now if they'd fix the link to the forums so we don't have to go through the very dated TRS2004 page to the forums, that would be nice.

Hi,

I think this has already been fixed. www.auran.com/TR2009

I still notice however than when you click the link for the DLS it reverts back to a 2004 site.

Cheers, John

Hi John,

After I cleared my temporary files, I loaded the new page and saw the login. Thanks!

John

Ah - the "unknown location" issue was caused by obsoleted items. We believe we've fixed that issue in the next build . Please let us know at the BTC if you find any occurence where CM2 doesn't find something that the web search does.

Thumbs down! - agree with some others, don't like the colour, and to me is too harsh on the eyes, unlike the previous colour. Or at least, if the board has an option to change colour schemes!

I like it, but as always there are people who won't. ......but I have written this elsewhere.

I just posted here to see my post count.

Regards

What is the BTC? Because there are non-obsoleted items CMP doesn't find and from another user's post, I believe I know why. I could list a few examples.

Sorry about the off-topic, if someone can tell me what the BTC is, I'll put comments there.

I like the DLS for the simple reason that the majority of the information you require is right on front of your eyes.

It tells you the kb/mb size of the assets, in CMP and CM it doesn't tell you what the size of the file is, which is very important to those with dial-up connections, and to those of us who need this vital information.

The other thing I like about the DLS is that you can see what version of trainz the asset was built for, which is obviously so important, and you can't readily see this information when in CMP or CM2, without having to go into the asset box and waiting for the photograph of the object to show up, which sometimes takes ages, along with the asset description and any other info the creator has included. With the DLS, it's " in yer face " which I enjoy.

These issues have been raised before - I think I posted the comments - in March 2006 just after my first purchase of TRS2006.

This thread has really drifted off-topic. I thought it was about the new forum style.

I think it is perfect, restrained, easy on the eye and a welcome change from the unpleasant and garish red of the previous forum.

Two additional things I would like to see, correct join dates, mine was 22-Nov 2001, and the individuals KUID.

Cheers

My 2-cents worth about the new format - I like it, very much.

The colors are attractive and the font easy to read. Matches the new TRS2009 too.

Why not just make the forum a favourite in your browser and it will go straight there. (or am I missing something?)

Trainz has moved from land to sea!:p :hehe:

It actually reminds me of the ocean, all these greenish blue colors.
Not exactly my choice but...I will live.

I've been away for a few days and wasn't sure I was in the right place when I brought the forum up. I think the colors are less harsh that the red and I like it. I think green is a little easie on the eyes, but it's impossible to please everyone. The post count isn't that important to me, but I sure would like to have the flatcars back.
