New CSX sd40-2

Ooooohhh very nice young man, in fact, very, very nice......Thank you Frank, another winner from your drawing board.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

The bar is set noticeably higher than before...

 Hello Frank, you have to be careful with your number sequencing on this fleet of locomotives...

All the CSX SD40-2's from #8087-8162 are post 1980 locomotives & have Q-fans, an exhaust silencer & a bulge on the dynamic brake housing to accommodate the exhaust silencer...UP & Santa Fe SD40-2's were the same.

Very nice Frank!
My newest route is CSX so this will come in handy!!!
BTW backyard,
Thanks for sharing that little bit of knowledge. I learned something new today! Where do you learn all this?!

Long ago...far away...

 ...I modeled trains in HO scale...

About 1990, Athearn released a model of this carbody. It's called a "Pre-1980."

CSX Photo Archives has practically every model of locomotive from all the Fallen Flags on this page, you'll see that the Family Lines System ordered 163 locomotives from #8000 to #8162. The model starts a #8087 & runs out with #8162 where older Louisville & Nashville SD40-2's start.

The order was changed along the line somewhere to Seaboard System, however I new somewhere up at about #8085 or so the carbody changed.

Modelers have often mistaken the bulge in the db housing for 'extended range db' & N&W did receive a fleet of these locomotives with Q-fans, no bulge...they may not have had an exhaust silencer...or the housing was re-engineered later...it also cost more money to fabricate this type housing.

Farr louvered radiator & intake grills are another characteristic of this series.

As I mentioned, Union Pacific & also the Santa Fe received orders that had the db bulge, exhaust silencer & Farr grill, however I believe they were also "snoots," with Locotrol installed in the nose for mid-train radio controlled engines.

The Canadian roads were the last holdouts for SD40-2's, with "Draper-Taper" carbodies at the end of SD40-2 production, then the "Super-Series" GP & SD50's began production.

I think several other Mods are holding off EMD units for the rest of this year, so If your interested, you might beat them to the punch...!

Either way, now you know...!

:D Nice! Very Nice!:D

Honestly can't wait for it to be released. I have some CSX Stock but nothing as high tech as that hunk of metal.
Great work, keep it up!

"May the tractive force be with you!"

ok so what roster range can i use to keep it the way i have it? #8000 to ? These are ex L&N. From what i have seen the roster goes from 8000 - and then theres another range. If i have to ill do the 8000- but if theres a second range i could release a second loco in that range as well.
Thanks for your help on this. CSX is a roster nightmare imo :)

...thanks Frank...

 ...throw it out as a #8000 to #8086.

And thanks for your consideration...

Your effort to keep it simple, weathered & accurately numbered is a plus for all of us...

Thanks for hanging in there Frank....

Thanks Alan. Yea i found the L&N units were 8000-8039 and then again 8067-8086 after that looks like the SCL's were 8040-8066 and the OW's were 9950-9957 lol. So ill release 2 numberings the 8000-8039 and 8067-8086

Thx for your help on this!!

They look great, well as good as a CSX scheme can look. (I am more of a Chessie and L&N guy when it comes to that area of the east coast, but that is probably because I am a classicist.) Anyway, I will have to download these once I get my new computer.

No Frank...

 The particular numberings where only Family Lines System paint units...you had Nikos1 do these...

You are only in the #8000 to #8086 series...

You have to understand that the divisions between SCL, L&N & CRR are a past performance....totally different paint schemes...

All the units between the numbers mentioned to you were repainted to the yn-2 Bright Future scheme...now the Dark Future...

They have also been featured on the ...Web as eat-up by phosphate service in Bone Valley, Florida(lol)....Frank, that means eat them up by weathering...........................................................................

Very good...!

 Thanks Frank for your efforts!

And, thanks for letting me tease you about the post '80 engines...

I checked that out a Athearn today, you might do the same...there are several UP locos there that carry that detail.

I'll be downloading these soon...!

Two Questions-texture & resolution

Will a weathered version become available?

Will the resolution be at 2009 or 2006 level?
