New Aircraft

Thanks Ish,

This one is a military Cessna O-2 Skymaster, for the US Army.

Very realistic model from Ian, as usual.

Hello,

Here are 2 aircrafts which are utilized for travels between Brittany and nearby islands.

The Cessna 208 Grand Caravan, flown by Atlantic Airlift. Flights between Yeu or Belle-Île-en-Mer and Nantes airport.

Another Cessna Grand Caravan, belonging to Finist'Air. Flights between Brest airport to Ouessant island.

Nice work as always Pascal,

At least you're still working on new assets and still making me look like a slacker. Keep it up my friend.

Thanks Rob! Dont worry, you will come back soon!

Ian issued recently the Lockheed F104 Starfighter and made the type G (like Germany). I made 2 versions of this aircraft in German colours:

Again Starfighters, but no armament. NASA was flying this aircraft for various test purposes.

Two different liveries, aircrafts N° 820 and 826.

The aircraft is white overall with a blue stripe. The shadow in TS12 is sometimes giving this grey aspect.

The F-104's look tremendous and bring back a lot of childhood memories.

As a young kid, I loved the Starfighter mainly because it looked so sleek and fast compared to MiGs of the time with their fat bodies and ugly flat noses. I'm not an aircraft engineer but as I look at them now, the tiny wings placed so far back suggest a fast but not very maneuverable fighter, perhaps even unstable. The large tanks on the wing tips that looked great to me as a kid, now just look like an aerodynamic mistake. I wonder what the Starfighter was like from a pilot's perspective and how well it would have done against the MiGs in reality.

Some of the statistics of the Starfighter are impressive even by the standards of today, but handling was not among them. That thing would do its level best to kill you, and I think more were lost to accidents than combat (correct me if I'm wrong). The thing could climb and go really fast, but it took an experienced pilot to tame it. I do agree though, it is one sexy little aircraft. And the wingtip tanks I believe actually had a positive effect on the stability as well as the range, which was a major positive for having them, despite not exactly helping the plane's aerodynamics.

The Starfighter was designed as a light fast interceptor, to catch the Soviet bombers which were crusing at high altitude. It was capable to climb fast, reach the target quickly, destroy it, and come back immediately, so no need of long range an high manoeuvrability.
Some European countries bought this aircraft because it was quite cheap, but wanted to enlarge its possibilities, to use them for attack and bombing. So wing tip tanks were installed to increase the range, but the poor maneouvrability due to the small wing area, could not be improved. The result was a lot of accidents, particularly with the German forces which lost many pilots. Its nickname was the flying coffin...

Back to the Starfighter model: there was an error with the model shadow. It is updated now and will be uploaded today, so you will have to re-download it. Sorry for that.

Back to civil aircrafts:

Douglas DC-6 operated by the BCPA - British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines.
It was flying from Sydney or Auckland to San Francisco and Vancouver. Quite a long journey at that time!

Older freighter (cross posted)

Friends, I have been somewhat active in the Trainz Forums, but this is the first time I have had reason to post in this thread. I recently had the occasion to come near one of the two surviving airworthy ATL 98's, and since most of my modeling has been linear and angular, I spent a bit of time contemplating how I might proceed to make a model of this bird. I spent a bit more time with Blender, with this result (still a WIP)

Aircraft5.jpg

a detail shot of the left side wing with engines:

Here's a detail of the nose landing gear:

Aircraft6.jpg

My present plans are to complete the bird as a stationary model, perhaps with a jack under one of the landing gear, with one or both of the tires being changed out, and upload it in that form in some livery to the DLS. And it won't be too much effort to undo Freddie Laker's conversion, and use this model as the basis for a DC-4, either. The present blender model has just under 7,400 vertices arranged in 12, 863 triangles. Operating window is from 1961 until present, though I'm not much enamored with any of the historical liveries; the model has not yet been skinned. But I thought I'd have it take off and see who saluted.

At the same time, I thought I'd solicit some advice on best practices for exporting such a model into Trainz.

Finally, is there a list of most desired aircraft to create for Trainz, and a list of what projects are being worked on? If I've a mind to try some other bird, and am trying to decide between a Fairchild C-117, and a Boeing 314 Clipper, I'm more likely to want to model the aircraft not being modeled as a current project by someone else .

@mjolnir,

There have been a couple of modellers come & go but the majority of the assets on this forum are originally by Ian (Vulcan). He creates the base models and a number of us reskins on that model. Most of the aircraft he does are now fully drivable and have a range of functions. He has spent a lot of time getting the scripting working so that the planes have loads of features.
If you want to start doing aircraft models, I suggest you contact him before you get too far along.

New model, recently issued by Ian, the Douglas DC9-30, in Northwest colours:

and my two reskins, aircrafts from British Midland and Swissair.

Perth's special visitor.

Hi folks,
No new assets to report today although I have been working on a few.
What I do have is news of a very special visitor to Perth today. Mriya, the one & only operational Antonov AN225, touched down at Perth Airport just before midday delivering a huge generator from Prague. The photos are rubbish but the 2 rows of fencing made it impossible to get a good shot. standing up close to this enormous aircraft is something you will never get a feel for on a computer screen. This was probably a once in a lifetime opportunity and was able to share it with my 4 year old son in the same way my dad took me out to Brisbane airport to see a C-5 Galaxy when I was much younger.
A bit off topic for this thread, but it's been a bit slow of late & thought some of you would appreciate the photos (as poor as they are). Maybe Gordon has some more pics from Trainz that don't have that annoying double row of fencing in front.....

Final Approach.

I missed the touchdown behind the terminal buildings but we did get to see the flaps flared and the engines in reverse thrust.

The end of the turn before the pilots took the slowest drive past much to the enjoyment of the crowd.

DSC_5322_zpsa8lwjp4z.jpg

The pilots even took the time to hang a Ukrainian flag out the window for the drive past.

DSC_5323_zpsqms1w5op.jpg

And that's all folks. She leaves again at 5.15 am on Tuesday before first light. I love my aircraft, but not that much that I'm going to get up at 4 am on a work day....

Again, sorry about the electric fence dominating the photos.

Nice shots. Jeez, what a beast of a plane! Not many planes in a category like that one! :)

Thanks for sharing those shots (I thought they were still good, given the obstacles in your way).

Hello Guyz --

Surprise you guys have not upload a dedicated airport! I have a few in files, but since I lost in trainz for now haven't been doing much at all!

Hi,

No map from me at the moment. I started 2 but they are progressing very slowly...

3 reskins for today:
