New Aircraft

Nice one Pascal!
A Scoot Dreamliner lands here in Perth around 6pm every day. It comes in between a couple of your other re-skins, the Emirates A380 & the Qatar B777. My 3 year old son & I watch out for the pair from the middle east to fly past on decent every evening around dinner time. It's very exciting when you're 3. The Scoot comes in from the north so we don't see that one unless we're out near the airport for some reason.

Thanks Rob.

This one doesn't fly to Perth. From London, you can take Virgin to Singapore and then Scoot to Perth!

The 787 is now replacing the 747 on Virgin's routes.

You auzzies haven't tried any under arm stuff for a while what gives?

Ah well! We might keep that "Up our sleeves" so-to-speak and until another final 'over' is on and we've got one or two runs in hand. Remember, 'under-arm' stuff takes a lot of skill and 'guts' you know. Usually, we have to shout the beers for all when it happens; and that can be expensive. If any New Zealanders wanted to try it 'just for a laugh', then it wouldn't be cricket would it?

Hello dear aircraft makers. I did repaint a few aircraft a while ago.

The Aircraft are now usable only in TS12 latest patch version for the time being. I did receive the new scripts for TANE from Vulcan but these aircraft are used in the TS12 version of Electro Island 3.0. I will update them later for TANE.

In the description of the Boeing 747-400 it says that an engine sound by David McVeigh is used. However this is not true anymore. I went back to the default sound for compatibility. But the fault is still in the description. But the Aircraft will work nicely in Ts12.

Hi Guyz --

Great work everyone --

Footnote: real life got me occupy, so not really doing anything trainz related at this time, but have not lose my mojo either! The assembling line here at home is halted, in term of mass updates -- Usually happens around the Holidays!

Still, keeping in touch --- well done works everyone!!!

Take Care all

Pagroove,

If it's only the description you are concerned about, then that is pretty easy to fix. Just change the wording in config.txt or have I misinterpreted the question? Is the engine sound kuid itself that is different to the vulcan template?

I had a bit of a look at your 747 to try to understand the issue. I noticed a few odd things in the config.txt that should probably tidy up. The 737 looks to be OK but I suggest you run your eye over the 747 config.txt. For the 747, you will need to make sure that you credit Ian as you have for the 737.

Comments about the reskin. Please don't take it personally, I'm just trying to help (not trying to pick holes in your work).
1. There are 2 .jpg files in the asset that are just photos of the aircraft. These take up file size and should be removed.
2. Normally, we rename the main .tga file to reflect the re-skin. This change needs to be reflected in the texture.txt file. In this case change main_ba747.tga to main_ANA747.tga ; and change the following line in main_qantas747.texture.txt to match "Primary=main_ANA747.tga". The 737 has a similar issue.
3. We tend to add the date of the appearance of the livery to the asset name just before startup. "Boeing 747-400 All Nippon (1992+) startup"
4. Remove "1980s" from category-era in config.txt to match the date above.
5. Change the category-keyword field to match the ANA. Both 737 & 747 config.txt still have the template model's keywords.

I hope that helps and answers your question. If you click on my banner below there are loads of helpful tips in my re-skin tutorial.
Let me know if you need clarification.

Thanks Rob. One question more. When I update the airplanes with the above mentioned suggested changes how can I up-version the kuids?
For the 737 I took another recent uploaded 737 and cloned it. Then pasted my texture files in it. That is why not everything has the correct naming yet.

Pagroove,

In Content Manager, Right click on the asset & select 'Create New Version'. Then make the changes. (It won't matter if you've already made the changes, but you may have to check that they've been copied through to the new asset version).
'Create New Version' will create a new asset with the same KUID series. For example, the 747. The original DLS issue has the following asset KUID. kuid:338927:100031. The new 'Create New Version' asset wiil be kuid2:338927:100031:1. Any further versions will be ...31:2, ...31:3 etc. These versions (or revisions) will obsolete the ones already available on your computer and on Download Station. The 'Clone' function will create a new asset series and will not obsolete the one you are trying to upgrade.

The other way you can 'Create new Asset' that's a bit old school, is to change the kuid in config.txt to the new one (as above) and drag & drop the entire directory for that asset into Content Manager. Honestly, this method is the hard way and is a up prone to mishap.

I hope that's the answer you were looking for.

Note. The KUID is made up of 4 fields. The first is designated 'kuid' for the first version then 'kuid2' for all subsequent versions. The second is your user ID. The third is the unique number for the asset series. The fourth is the asset version. We tend to develop our assets with the 'kuid' version & issue the 'kuid' version :1 as the first to DLS. Not strictly necessary but it makes things easier. My tutorial has a lot of these things mentioned in more detail.

Cheers

Thanks Rob for explaining on how to to this. Will make a new version of the aircraft with the suggestions that where mentioned earlier in this topic.
@ Papou: Very nice ATR 42-500.

I follow this thread with interest, and admiration for the modeling skills always evident.

I have a question. I watched the video of the new Dreamliner in flight and noted how evident was the upward flexing of the wing in flight compared with the wing shape when stationary. Has anyone managed to portray this flexing in Trainz aircraft?

Peter

Hello Peter,

I have not tried that, but it should be reasonably easy to flex the wings, the angle would be based on the aircraft speed to some extent, higher speed, more lift generated, but it would not be a linear function of speed, the angle would change markedly as it takes off, smaller changes up to full speed. The engines would need to be linked to the wing animation so it follows the movement, something we do already when the aircraft flares for landing.

Something to try, thanks for the idea.

If I recall I believe that even the old Lancaster had a difference in wing tip height of 16 feet in flight, but my memory is not quite waht it used to be so could be wrong. :o

Landing gear is an animation, we cannot use bogies for that. I had also made a model where the wheels rotate on takeoff and landing, rotation speed based on aircraft speed, the rotation is turned off in the air by triggers appropriately placed on the invisible track, but I felt it would be too complicated, users would forget to place the triggers then the wheels rotate unrealistically all the time, in the hold of the aircraft.

Ian

Pascal, you make a good point. Not much activity of late. I'll be the first to admit that I've lost my mojo a bit. The endless updates have taken some of the incentive.

I have released 2 more 767 updates. These are the longer 400 series aircraft. They both have the same livery for all intents & purposes with only the company name changed. It was all part of the Continental/United merger.
