I have paintshed already installed in my TRS06 but it never has worked, I pick my asset, choose edit in paintshed, but It just shows the 4 icons on a blue background and does not go anyfarther! Then it won't let me shut it off! I click the X but it does not shut off. I then have to shut down the computer. This is very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really, Thats alot of frustration
Im sure that with 2006 you can only select a few certain locos to use in paintshed, and im not even sure it works for them either.

PS never worked for me in 06. However I would suggest learning how to reskin outside of the extremely limited confines of PS.
A easy place to start is to take an simple object someone else has made (like a house). Open it for edit in CMP then play around with the texture files (generally .tga or .bmp) you can start working in MS paint; and once you get a hang of progress to more complex objects and more complex graphic editing programs. For better programs; GIMP, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and Paint.net are all very popular; Personally I use Fireworks....

If you need help there are a few tutorials out there, and there is always the forum here. If you need imediate help; feel free to visit us in the IRC Chat (details in the Community Section)

I was a beta tester for Paint Shed. It really didn't do much and as 0099 said it only worked for two or three locomotives. It was also limited in what it could do.

Paintshed Same Problem

I have the exact same problem. Was using TRAINZ2006 on a desktop computer and Paintshed worked fine but the Driver and Surveyor were unpredictable. Got a new laptop, loaded the same program from the same CD, Surveyor and Driver work great but Paintshed just sits there with the same empty blue screen and four icons no matter how long I let it run. I have noticed that at the same time CMP goes into a Not Responding mode and then they are both stuck and I have to go to Task Manager to close. When I first loaded Trainz, I noticed in trying to save a created route in Surveyor, I kept losing my work and then thanks to the helpful tip I found here in the forum, I now always run "as administrator. Love to create in Surveyor and it is working beautifully but would like to customize some things in paintshed since I know it has worked before. I know this is a lot of info but thought maybe something I mentioned here might trigger an answer. Thanks

I have the exect same problem, AND YES IT IS THAT FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. It's a Vista problem. I tried trs06 on a XP computer and paint shed worked just fine.

HHmmmm theres a clue. The desktop had XP--the laptop has Vista----Weird that Driver and Surveyor did poorly with XP and Paintshed worked great now I have it just the opposite---OH well at least I can create beautiful scenery and my own routes.

You type before you think....

 Woodrow, why did you not ask me?

I'm, after all, you mentor................................!

Paintshed

In open Trainz file location...type in search box: paintshed...create the shortcut icon to your desktop...it worked for me...I made a PRR TGV in Tuscan Red with custom PRR Keystone logos:cool:

I tried that and all I get is an eror message saying "Unable to load required component 'paintshed.dll'".

One more thing I'm questioning illinoiscentral, you said in your first post that you chose "edit in paintshed". If that wasn't a typo, then I think you probably should have chosen "new paintshed asset" if you were creating something new. Not sure if that's what you meant to type or not.
