Need help no motherboard

Need to replace my m/b have £100 to spend needs to take the same as this one.

Not quite sure what would be the best, last time I replaced this board I got an asus which was a nightmare so I don't really want that make....

Any help please guys.

Cheers Rusty.

As a user of an ASUS motherboard, and a few other ASUS parts in my lovely new computer (I say new but it's all old ish, bought if from brother, he's a gaming freak!) I have re-formatted my system several times and installing and using the drivers and miscellanious other things for all ASUS parts was as easy as pie.

That's the URL of the m/b you said, a bit over your budget and it appears that you need to know your stuff, as the manual is..... 'crap'.
I can see what you mean.

The bottom one is (I think) the m/b I'm using. Neither my brother or I have ever had ANY problems with it (he's had my computer since new, it's a few years old now but still going strong).
Notice how they're all ASUS? ;) Not too bad REALLY are they? :p

Thanks for that there seems to be only 1 that states am2 cpu.

May be best if I list what I have.

AMD athlon 64x2 daul core processor 5600+ 2.80ghz. (this will be upgraded next year)

4x 1GB ram (I do belive it's DDR2) so must have 4 ram slots.

2x sata hdd and 2x ide cd/dvd drives. (the ide will be upgraded to sata next year)

NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512mb.

Hi,

One of the other UK Trainzer's put me onto Novatek - for computer supplies.

Service & knowledge appear good as well.

I used a Gigabyte M/B for my PC - no significant problems with software/hardware. The only little problem was fitting an Akasa heatpipe fan for the main CPU - the Gigiabyte boards have a slightly different CPU socket.
That makes no difference to the CPU or fitting it - bit needed another bracket to support the add-on heatsink/cooler.

HTH

Thanks colin had a look think I found the right site...

I'm thinking of going for this one.

Which I found here. A little more than what I wanted to spend but looks ok and seems to have good feed back from other sites aswell.

Cheers Rusty.

Hi,

Thanks for the positive feedback!

One thought - graphics card? I'm not sure if this has builtin grpahics or not...

The heat-pipe cooler looks good though!

(I added the Akasa one to my Athlon 3000 - reduced the typical temperature from 55C to about 40C. I then bought the Akasa Zen case - two 12 cm fans+good layout now it runs at 10% overclock at 35C).

If you have a store near you, then it's cheaper to collect then to have it couriered!

Have a look on Ebuyer as well, often cheaper with special offers, need to list all AMD motherboards to see them. They have most of the Asus stuff plus Gigabyte which are a bit cheaper, cheapest are Asrock which are budget boards made by Asus however they are not exactly flavour of the month although I have one PC with an Asrock board in it that has been faultless. All the rest, I use Gigabyte boards.
