Need help copying CDP files to folders for CD burning

Some time ago, a gentleman named Ian told me how to copy assets from TRS06 to a CD so I can use them in TRS09. His instructions worked fine then. But here's what I'm finding now:

When I list the assets I want in TRS06's Content Manager, right-click each, then select "Save to CDP," the result is a message that says, " You cannot add the item "item name" as it is a built-in item." It seems to think that I'm trying to add it to TRS06. I'm not. I'm trying to save it to an separate folder for later CD burning

However, when I do the same to an item that I have previously added to TRS06 (probably from DLS), it packs it, then opens the directory list so I can chose a folder into which I can copy that item's CDP file.

Is there any way to copy a built-in CDP file from TRS06 Content Manager to a folder for later CD burning?

Thanks for your help?

The word "add" in the context of the error message means that is can't ADD it to your CDP because it is built-in; not that it can't add it to your content.

When you select "Save to CDP" you are building a file by ADDING items to the file. CM cannot put a built-in item into a CDP.

Hi Bill,

I was trying to copy the cdp file (eg; NYC F7A.cdp) to a folder outside of Trainz, but I guess I can't do that. Thanks for your reply.

Okay. I'm confused then. Your first post led me to believe you were in Content Manager and were trying to create a CDP.

Now, you tell me you already had the CDP and were trying to copy it to a CD.

Any file on your computer can be copied anywhere else (exceptions are system files and other protected files).

I can't imagine what a "built in CDP file" would be. By definition, a CDP file isn't built-in.

Is the CD in the drive able to receive files (I.E. is a CD-RW or CD-ROM).

Bill,

Let me restate the problem:

I'm in Content Manager. I search for the asset whose cdp file I want to save to a different partition so I can burn it to a CD. When I find that asset, say "NYC F7A", I right-click it and pick "Save to CDP."

This is where the problem occurs. Some assets can be saved as a cdp file to another folder outside of Trainz. But some result in this message: " You cannot add the item "asset-name" as it is a built-in item." Why?

Thanks for your efforts.

Is the one you are trying to save a builtin item? If so why do you want so make a CDP?

If you really want to to save it then clone it and try changing that to a CDP. Otherwise, open it for edit, copy all the files to a folder named NYC F7A and burn that to a CD/DVD.

If you commit it you may get some errors, so use Revert to Original.
