N Guage layout in UTC - how do I put trains into it?

OK, I'm a newbie... Loaded Ultimate Trains Collection a month ago, and spent time since creating a super layout in 'N' Guage. I've tried to drag and drop from my favourites into the terrain I created onto a red insert point, but no go. So how do I do it?:'(

Speak slowly to me - I'm a silver surfer...

Hoping for a bit of sound advice, Nick.

I wouldn't know for sure because I've never used UTC, but in TRS 2006 you just have to click on the icon for the train you want, and then click on the track where you want it. Can anyone else confirm if its the same in UTC?

Nope.
UTC and earlier worked diferently.
I don't remember well but it had something to do with putting starting point markers on the track before you could put a train on it.

.....drag and drop from my favourites into the terrain I created onto a red insert point.....

Did UTC have drag and drop?

These days it's - click in the list to select (which highlights a "+" sign ) and then click on the insert point to add the item.

Nick,

Very few people are using UTC now (it is a very old version) and you will find help hard to come by. If you finances and computer can take the strain I would suggest you upgrade to a later version, not just for the help but for a generally better experience.

Whatever you decide - Enjoy !!

Tried drag and drop - failed...

Thanks for your help so far, guys.
UTC has no real instructions:(... So I placed the red 'insert' markers on the track, and tried to drag and drop from my favourites to the track. Then going to the layout I get a message saying "No consits loaded" LIAR! As far as I know - I just did!!! I've placed several 'insert' points on the circuit - both red arrows and green crosses, and tried to load varios different consists to each of these, but trhe result is just the same... I'm just a poor bewildered old sod who doesn't know what to do next... Btw; I had UTC for a couple of years before I got a Pc capable of running it... Now you all say I need to up-grade again! Sob! Sob!
Some-one out there knows the answer... Is anyone from Planet Auran reading this? Where are you?
I'll just go and play with the layout meantime - like add cows, and wire fences. (Cos there ain't much else to do with it until I can run a train on it!!!)
Thanks anyway, people, Nick.

Hi nickq7,

UTC is too early for click and drag!

I have managed to find a UTC manual.

From the main menu select 'Driver' and the Driver Presets Menu is loaded.

Use the 'Driver Consist Menu' to add new consists or edit existing ones.

To add consists to a map select 'Driver Terrain Menu'.

Select a map ( the manual calls them Terrains )

To assign a consist to a location L-Click on a vacant Trackmark, L-Click again on that Trackmark to reverse the travel direction of that consist.

Hope this helps you,
Lindsay :)

GORRIT!!!

Thanks Lindsay, you're right on the button! I had actually managed to load two trains into my terrain - it loads in driver mode by clicking on the insertion point then just running 'driver'. Fine, but now I have to figure out how to run them WITHOUT de-railing every time I hit the points... It seems that my signal lights keep telling me fibs, and I need to watch which way the points are set by the red/green indicators.
Lots of fun! I'm a happy bunny again... Now all I need is some spare moolah to upgrade to 2004 or whatever.
Thanks to all for your input. Nick.
