My SP1 Issues

-Since patching to SP1, I have took it upon myself to fix all the faulty content it created. Before I patched I knew I had no missing dependencies and no faulty content. After patching, about 95% of faulty assets was due to missing thumbnails. Now, I am just burnt out on fixing other content creators mistakes. With all the assets I have, which is a lot, almost 2400 were faulty. I have already fixed quite a few. Three people stand out the most that make up for most of the faulty assets that I have left and I wonder if they are going to do anything about fixing their errors. Names are JANKVIS (553 errors), LOTHARHAKE (154 errors) and MUTANAY77 (184 errors). (Grahmsea had a lot too but I just deleted them) I am down to just over 1000 faulty assets left. I'm sure these numbers will drop as I continue, off and on, to fix faulty dependencies to the routes I have and use. But it would be great if these three asset creators and all other asset creators would take responsibility for their own faulty assets. I also know its not going to happen over night and that its going to take time for everyone to recover from this patch, but in the end, I believe its for the better for all us Trainzers. Sorry if I sounded rude or offended anyone at all.

-I'm also starting to realize that SP1 problems are starting to stretch more than just faulty assets, the more I mess around, in and out of game. My first question is, what does this mean, "is a uniform color" and how do I fix it? Also, why haven't the locomotive bells been fixed? It sucks have four different locomotives with all there bells running at the same time. Its just not realistic.

-Thanks!

I have a lot of broken lothar assets as well, mainly from Maria's Pass. I do hope those folks get a handle on fixing things. I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. If this patch is giving fits to experienced creators such as yourself, what chance do we non creators stand?

There's a ton as you mentioned. They were missing a thumbnail which I replaced with a generic "thumbnail" image. I sorted by faulty assets then by author. Using FileBoss, I was able to update all of the assets at once after I opened them for edit.

Jankvis's stuff needs mesh-tables in the mesh libraries and thumbnails.

Graham Sea's were just thumbnails or icons.

Don't worry about the uniform texture. This is a warning and Chris (Windwalker) says don't worry about this one. If it comes up as an error, which I had with one set of assets, I you can use Images2TGA to fix it.

Here's the link to the utilities I found helpful.

File Boss: http://www.theutilityfactory.com/ --- for adding a single file to multiple folders. This is great for missing thumbnails images. Copy the thumbnail.jpg. Open the assets with the errors for edit, and the folders in FileBoss. Choose Advanced More Copy actions. Done!

Text Crawler: http://www.digitalvolcano.co.uk/content/textcrawler ---- Search and replace faulty lines in config.txt files. Great for adding in single lines or modifying incorrect paramenters such as mode 1 instead of mode "time".

Then there are the usualy PEV Software tools as well.

Both Kyle and Lothar are currently fixing there content for be compatible with TS12 SP1. As for JVC sounds like that wont be addressed for at least a few months.

-The future on Trainz is unknown. With other sims being released (run8), Auran is going to have to step it up if they want to be competitive in the future.

-This is what I have been doing. But the point is, why should anyone have to fix other asset creators problems? I bet a lot of people just want to download some third party assets and play the game.

I agree with you. I wonder how long though before they'll have updates ready and I want to be able to use the sim. Right now I'm running another EDR because I have a built-in that's faulty and open for edit that I can't close so much for running. In the mean time, get these tools anyway. They're great of other projects which I've used them for. :)

Trainz is doing better than it ever has. I guess nothing in this life is certain, but I certainly wouldn't get alarmed about it :)

Also, Auran is long gone.

kind regards,

chris

-Glad to hear good news. I may complain a lot or have a bad attitude at times, but I've always seen Trainz moving forward. I tell myself with every asset created, do it right the first time and I'll never have to mess with it again.
-Also, I wasn't implying that I was going anywhere else, if it may have seemed that way. Trainz is the only train-sim I have ever played and will most likely stay that way. Well... RW's twice and what a waste of money it was, but that doesn't count in my book. There is just to much time and effort invested here. Anyway, please fix the bells! :p

So, I looked briefly at the Run8 website, and I from what I could see, there is little or no opportunity for user created content, and all of the routes appear to be payware.

That's enough to tell me I won't be switching anytime soon.

Oh, it's on the list, don't worry. We can't add every wish-list item at once, but we're well aware that the current implementation could be improved.

kind regards,

chris
-Good to know it will get taken care of sooner or later.

-I don't know anything about run8 except from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yvtUbRkH9mY As I see it, there is a lot of room for improvement but whats there already shows its potential. And run8 was just an example btw.

I know a good-bit about Run8, and it has no future, with the current "attitude" of the developers. Run8 is EXTREMELY proprietary, by operation and INTENT; ie, the Developers have made it very clear, they do NOT want 3rd party content, PERIOD.
They feel that their work is superior to all other, and do not want their work to be diminished by incompetent content creators (In laymans terms, they're afraid that someone will make a purple and orange es44 and/or out-do their own modeling skills).
-Very high price tag to be treated like a incompetent bafoon...heck, they even banned people from their forums for asking for Tech Support.

-Wow, that just sounds terrible. I never began to give it thought about getting into Run 8. I have my own Mojave sub to run and frankly, I think JR and I did a much better job.

-Joe

Run 8, one route, one type of scenery, and you have to use Multiplayer in order to make it two steps above boring. Ask for something on their forum that they don't like, and you are toast.

Run 8 does have extremely good physics - far superior to anything Trainz or Railworks have to offer. As to the rest though, pretty much as stated - one strike and out policy on their forum and very limited replay value unless you're into MP (which I'm not).

With regard to SP1 I've largely been keeping my own counsel (on here at least) as for starters there are just too many threads running to keep track.

My own install went fairly well but with regard to previously perfectly serviceable assets which are now faulty you do have to wonder why:-
1. N3V didn't wait until the next full re-issue of the game (assuming there will be one) to implement the requirements, rather than breaking stuff within an existing version.
2. It's all very well fixing assets for your own use, but about as much use as putting an ashtray on a motorcycle for anyone else who downloads your route and finds the assets don't display because they still have the unfixed version. (And why should users have to go through 100's of assets manually fixing them because N3V decided to move the goalposts mid-term)?
3. Knowing that was coming why was there not more dialogue with the community to give people like Jankvis a lead in to bringing their assets into compliance rather than having scores of popular foliage items suddenly broken and unuseable?

If you're providing a sim with a sandbox then stability is absolutely essential and while, as I noted, my own particular SP1 experience was fairly unremarkable the fact that many assets I would likely use in a route project are (temporarily) trashed means I have considerably cooled off doing anything in this "latest" version. Time to dust off TS2009/10 (or Railworks) and hope N3V don't decide to accelerate the life cycle policy of "former" versions.

-I just want to point out a few more issues, things I couldn't fix on my own. Hope they might see this... from mcguirel <kuid2:72938:21058:3> and <kuid2:72938:21077:3> are reported faulty. From mchawkman <kuid:593863:100099> and <kuid:593863:100078> are faulty.
-Assets from jankvis and mutanay77 add up for a total 685 left that are faulty, but already know the story about them.
-After this, I'll be SP1 free from faulty assets. Cant wait.

Hello Everybody,

Before installing SP1 TS12 I went through several threads concerning SP1 TS12.
Tuesday evening I started the installation of SP1 TS12 on a backup installation ( which was a fresh TS12 copy + 2 installed routes ( Vosges + Wilsons Mills & Mount Olive ) +
a Belgian AM75 train ) Installation was done after 80 minutes.

I opened Cm, looked if I had some faulty asset. To my suprise, I had none. Could this be true?
Closed down TS12 - restarted it and yes indeed, no faulty assets were present.

I continued my tests with TS12. In combination with Transdem I could create the complete Belgian railwaynet. I only had something odd with transdem, but this has probably nothing to do with SP1.

Before SP1, I could not create the complete Belgian railwaynet, due to the Taddeamon error after importing a file larger than 550Mb into Trainz. Now a 1,1GB file was no issue for TS12.

Thursday everning, I wanted to continue my test and when I started TS12, the system automatically started looking for deleted assets. In other words, I think a database repair had begun.

I think this phenomenon lasted more than 90 minutes and after finishing the job, the faulty assets popped up.

I had to use PEV tool ( Image2TGA 1.20 ) to repair the errors I had with the Belgian train. I only hope I will be able to repair the other faulty assets just by using the brilliant PEV tools.

Best regards

Kurt

I think A lot of the issues can be User machines and their hardware set ups. And with the tons of third party stuff out there ,How can N3V Keep up with it all? I my self feel that ,I have made an A*# off my self here for posting and coming off rude but in some cases yes I was. But it's not the end of the world. Perfection takes time I suppose? I just wonder how they(N3V) could not have anticipated this. That's my beef with N3V. Solution would be better vetting of any further Service patches and of Hot fixes. Let other's out side of N3V help beta test. We All have apparently been beta testing this service pack for them ,it seems.
