Hey Everyone,
I am starting to learn how to make my own layouts, etc. What I am wanting to know is if any of you out there have an intrest in the same thing I do. I am wanting to get this started ASAP if it is possible. Here goes my idea.
I am wanting to make yard layouts with the near by industries that each yard would service. They would also have the mainline and industries serviced from the mainline in them up to the halfway mark to the next yard, then another layout would take up at the half way mark, run through the next yard and half way to the next yard, etc. Then use I-poratals on each and every exit and entrance so we can pass trains to each other over the internet. I would also like to have somewhere that the yards can be posted and the person that is over/runs that yard can be posted. Each yard would have 1 member that runs it. If you get tired of running a yard and want another one you would be able to swap with someone else that may want your yard or you could just give it up and then someone else could take it over. You could have as many yards as you want, but must be able to give enough time to each one so traffic keeps running.
I would also like to know any ideas on how we could assign a destination to each car in a consist according to different yards needs, and how we could post each yards needs as they need items along with the type of car.
(expmple: KCS Baton Rouge, needs 50 Tank Cars of Diesel, and 20 Flatcars of Lumber). We could also have a detailed system map showing the completed yards accross the USA and Canada, if they are hump yards, the lines between them and what RR each line is. This would be updated weekly as other yards are complete and online.
I am mainly interested in doing this with the USA and Canada, and I am interested in running yards in Louisiana, Mississippi, Memphis Tennessee, and Houston, Dallas Texas Areas as my yards. I am hoping that others will be interested and want other areas and we can get this going.
I know it will be a long term project, unless there is alot of intrest in this, But basically I used to play FYM (Freight Yard Manager) and Yard Duty, and I liked it alot, but was not really happy with the graphics and some other aspects of either game. I would like to take their principal idea of creating traffic, switching cars, and sending traffic to different places and make it a reality in trainz. The only other thing I would really like is that all USA and Canada layouts and content use only USA and Canada Cars, Engines, and be made with content that can be used in 2009 or later and be pretty much error free, looking as close to possible to the real world layout.
