My First Trainz Set Question

Hi all,

This is a message to anyone who has purchased My First Trainz Set. What resolutions does the program support? The reason i'm asking is that my laptop screen is such that its native resolution is 1920x1080 (16:9 aspect ratio) and if I run a program at a resolution with an aspect ratio different to this, the program won't fill up the whole screen.

Many thanks in advance.

You can run you PC at you favorite native screen resolution, or any size you want.

TRS2006 runs in its own native mode, in fullscreen, and at 1024 x 768, I think, and it fills the screen.

It is possible to run Trainz in a windowed mode, and it runs fairly well, but it is not recommended to run windowed.

I think it's to do with the kind of screen fitted into my laptop. For example, if I change the resolution to say, 1024x768, then black lines appear on either side of the image so that it isn't actually stretched across the whole area. This means I have to run programs at full HD if I want them to fill the whole screen. It was nice of <insert laptop manufacturer here> not to tell me that when I bought the thing :hehe:

Hi chrispajo

If you click on 'options' on the launcher screen for My First Trainz Set (MFTS), then you will see the 'Configure My First Trainz Set' screen appear. Next, go to the 'Display Settings' tab. In here will be the display resolution, please set this to the resolution that you want.

We do recommend that you have it set to the same resolution as your desktop resolution (desktop being the 'main' screen in Windows).

If you wish to set it lower, you will need to either run in windowed mode (untick the 'fullscreen' box), or adjust the aspect ratio accordingly. Note, if you do override the aspect ratio, the image will become distorted to fix the chosen aspect ratio, e.g. round objects will become 'oval' shaped. As such, we do recommend leaving this set to automatic if you wish to turn the resolution down. This will give black edges, however it will prevent distortion.

Thank you for the replies, you've been most helpful :)

EDIT: I also had a similar problem with TRS2004, where running in 1024x768 would result in black lines down the sides of the screen.
I have since found a fix involving a slight modification of the trainzsettings configuration file to force the game to run at my desktop resolution.

Now everything runs in full screen and doesn't appear distorted at all :)
