Multiple installations of TS12

I have TRS06, TS10 and TS12 on a dedicated "Trainz drive" but I'd like to know if it is advisable to have another TS12 installation beside my current one, on the same OS and same drive but in different directories? For testing purposes.

Will is adversely affect my primary TS12 installation?
If not possible, is it advisable to run TS12 in another Win7 virtual machine?

Cheerio,
Nicholas

It's possible, but may cause unexpected results when opening CDP files from the Desktop, or downloading using the Download Helper option on the Black Pages.

In addition to this, patching is slightly more difficult if you use manual patches, as you have to select the correct folder.

G'day Nicholas, I have multiple instances of trainz on one drive with no problems, what Shane said is true and installing cdp's should be done using CM via the menus and patches need to be manually directed to the correct install. Get in touch if you need more information.

I to have more than one installation. As far as downloading is concerned I have not so far had any issues. I select the cm according to which copy I want the assets to go to. I've also not had any conflicts between the copies.

I have 3 TS12 installs on my off line machine. 1 is on the C drive, 2 are on External HDs. The install I am working on is on an external HD. I back up the route and user data at least every second day. Every couple of weeks I copy ALL the files in the work install to the other 2 installs. I just took a look at them and any new items that I have downloaded to the work install are showing up in the other 2 installs. That's what I was hoping for. 2 copies are back ups for my working copy. I got a little nervous when I had some HD problems a while back.... I'm hoping I'll never loose all 3 installs, but if that can happen, It WILL happen to me! I'm sure there are easier ways to protect my route, I'm still learning, this way is working for me, so for now I'll stick with it.

Cheers.....Rick

Rick, to protect your route, just R-click it in Content Manager and "Save to cdp". You can save it to any location you feel is safe.

You probably already know this, but others may not.

Hey Ken; I'm doing that, all the rest is real overkill. I'm just doing it "just in case". Man, I never want to have to start this route over again.

Cheers........Rick

Hi guys,

I've just finished installing the second testing copy and have put in my Serial Number. This is the same as the main installation; I only have 1 physical copy. Now, is it okay for me to enter my Planet Auran credentials into the Options for CMP access to the DLS, or will Auran detect the double installation and send some FBI/CIA/EA dudes in black suits armed with tazers and lawyer letters to my house?

I need the DLS because I'm testing DLS-content-only route (essentially multiplater compatible, but I'm considering including Pofig stuff, we'll see about that, and I'm sorry I digress) and so will need to download dependencies from the DLS.

Cheerio,
Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,

It is OK to enter your USER NAME & PASSWORD in each install you make. I have 3 installs. You can download & update each install individually

All the best, Andrew..

Ok I've done that. CMP has found and is downloading dependencies for my route now. Currently there are more than 700MB of them. It looks like I have to renew my FCT after all. :(
