Multiple Creators Duplicating Content -Why Not? (was This is REALY annoying me.)

If one man creates a wheel for trainz, the next man can’t.

That really annoys me. Just because Person ex created a wheel doesn’t mean I cant make one also, maybe mines is low poly, maybe mines is high poly, maybe mines is more accurate, or has more features, maybe mines is better or more efficient.

Maybe Mines is Different

I would like for someone to name to locomotives in the united states that look completely and exactly down to the atomic level, like each other.

And if this is a simulator shouldn’t we simulate also the variety of engines and locos just as their is in the real world, so that when we are running the super chief, each F7A, B doesn’t look exactly like each other?

So I leave you all with this, this idea that everyone has needs to end. Otherwise you will be loosing great content creators, and I am not saying I am great but I might be leaving to because this upsets me and I don’t need to make anything for anyone, I do this for myself because of the dream I had and my ambition to make sure that dream comes true.

Hello,

I am from NYC now living in Central Florida.

My experience with the forum from the beginning is this, this forum will drive you nuts if you let it get to you...

My friend, do what you enjoy .... and if they don't like it ignore them ... this is my own opinion, but don't let these little children, whoever they are completing, get under your skin. Just look at it this way: they're are just a stranger in the world ... they are not your neighbor, friend, they don't paid your bills and put food on the table for you ...

Being here since the beginning I have had my share of headaches, but I learned a long time ago not read their posts, or even delete their mail. I recalled one day recommending an item to the community, and a day later some moron e-mail me pissed off about it, because he did not like the guy ... I simply told him not to e-mail again, and told him further, that I recommend any item that I feel the community would enjoy using. What I did next was update the thread like 100000000000000x ....

Please don't let anyone deter you from what you enjoy. It's game, and sadly enough some just don't understand. But that's their problem, not yours!!!

Stay around and enjoy your time ...
Ishie

PS. Visit me at our website by clicking below ... we are not group or anything like that ... just a bunch of guys that just talk train and stuff ... :)

Content Creation should NEVER be discouraged.......under any circumstances.

I understand we all take/accept and dwell on things differently, but does it really matter what someone else thinks....or wants out of this hobby?? Utlimately, you're in it for....YOU!!

Pretty simple, really.

That isnt so much the case as other content creators seem to shun those who create the same content they do. I would feel better making my own model then modifying someone elses

My personal view is there will be people who are interested in a highly detailed model and those who want something with less detail but lower polys.

Even the best creators create but don't have models with running numbers or carry visible product loads or optimal lod. Mind you running numbers puts a small extra load on the machine. etc.

There is lots of room for variation.

It's my Theory that having multiple creators make the same item causes the DLS to crash on the weekends.
Ed:confused:

Geez Mike, like some drama will stop you from making what you want. How many times have we re-worked something or scrapped something and started over and over and over.... If all the stuff you went through (not to mention the laptop issues) havent stopped you yet, I doubt anything will. Remember.. they werent your friends before this forum, and they wont be after the forums. So it looks like you havent lost a thing. Keep doing what you love and dont forget to enjoy it.

I asked a question like this and the response was you create what you like and release it. Even if the item around is payware or freeware and you want to make it the opposite then by all means do it.

Good Luck!!

Matt

Make what you like. It's a hobby and that means you should enjoy it. I make what I want because I enjoy the process of building (mostly)! If other folks use what I make and get enjoyment from it then that is truly an added bonus as is the ability to help others with their projects. :)

Cheers

In my own opinion

Hi there,

i understand what you are saying. and if there is a certain "wheel" you really like,, then like the rest, go for it,,no two locos are alike. I think in the community there are three UP challenders being built,

we all here know that things made in trainz 3 or 4 years ago were built to a lower poly threshold than is possible now,

I wish you good luck and look forward to your creations. we all learn new tricks from each other in here. !!

sometimes this community will get you a little down, at first, no one wanted my cars, now,, some of them are ofer 100,000 downloads,

If you make it...... the will come!!

Good Point!

As the capabilities of the average computer increases there will be a demand for versions of existing items in greater detail, far beyond what we expect today.

Content Creation is a journey; not a destination.

I can understand why some Content Creators make their items payware. Because they are worth the prices charged and more. This value is inherent for items that are made available as freeware as well.

As a route builder, I understand that my creations are made from the building blocks that many content creators provide. The final product will be much greater because it will reflect the wide spectrum of talents of the group, rather than my own limited abilities.

Since I will offer my route creations for free, I avoid (when possible) using content in my routes that might require a financial outlay on the part of the people who choose to download and enjoy the route.

Those content creators who desire to make a living from creating payware, will never do so by discouraging others from producing similar items for free. Instead they should ride the wave of ever-increase computer speed and capability, by creating highly detailed items with new and enhanced features.

Auran will not get existing members to buy a new version of Trainz simply by offering more of the same old features. If content creators "step up their game" and build two years ahead of advances in technology, they too can make a good living by being the first to market with their payware versions utilizing the leading edge of capabilities.

Some artists paint to make a living. Some artists paint simply for the joy of painting. I appreciate and understand the value of their talent either way.

Well said Lance. We should never forget that we are doing this for fun. If you feel like making something that someone else already make there is no reason you can't.There is always small details that I would like to see on differant content and the only way you could sometimes get it done is to do it your self. Why do you think I'm making the things I am.

Bill

I here you Bill,
I will make or create anything I want and no one is ever going to stop me!!!! Creation is in the hands of the creator. no one has the right to stop creativity of anyone........

I tend to agree. I make a lot of high poly and detailed content. It's just what I like to do. Personally, I enjoy detailed foreground content although it may slow framerates some...however, one of these days, today's high poly content will be considered low resolution content as technology improves.
It you have something that you want to create...do it and don't worry about the critisism. Those that like it will download it and those that don't won't. I do it because I enjoy it and if there are others out there that enjoy my content, then I'm glad for them to have it.

I think the only area in which things should not be duplicated is loadable commodities. Imagine, if you will, the headache from having five different types of coal on the DLS, all named "coal." You could download a coal mine, several coal hoppers, and a power plant from the DLS, just to find out they all use products from different authors, even if it's all coal! Thus, they're completely incompatible with each other.

This can be an advantage, with steam locos and tenders pulling a coal train, Welsh coal for the loco and other coal for the rest of the train. Also many products are designed a certain size for a particular wagon.
