msts2 and ms-esp

Winterpaw

code pirate
looking at the microsoft esp demo ( http://www.microsoft.com/esp/ ) i cant help but imagine this is going to be part of msts2 as its used in flight simulator and shown as a link off the tsinsider website, which makes me very interested.

to quickly elaborate, using their flight simulator examples:

changing seasons
peer-to-peer multiplayer
video recording
air traffic controller
5.1 surround

what do you think?

Yes and No , and to help your understand a little better , this is from the source >

Just to clear up a little confusion, ESP, TS, & FS are all three being built on the same Core platform (Core is what we call the internal group working on the main shared platform code), ESP is just another one of the products we build using that core, aimed at the commercial Simulation & Visualization market, ESP is not the name of the core itself.

I'd rather wait and see what MSTS2 brings before passing opinion. Though there is a rumour that while it will have passenger loading, interactive industries will not be included.

honestly, that doesnt say anything tremendous to me. i think you and several others are missing the point of my post. excuse me for not being elaborate, im very sick at the moment.

i wasnt asking for opinions on whos bigger and better, i was asking more about the concepts and ideas. its all mere speculation what microsoft will have but apparently they have the ability to include most of these options in their releases. i am interested in the potential technology differences we'll get to experience in the future from both companies and the advances forward.

this is not an auran vs. ms fight. i appreciate both and am very glad to have two more reasons to enjoy trains.

Read the old threads about the Kuju Rail Simulator and how good people thought it was going to be.The grass is always greener on the other side.

Take it easy, WinterPaw, you're posting possible competition and this forum is about 98% Auran.
Personally, I fall in the 2% range, luckily and, have an open mind about it. I will be buying the new MSTS2 if and when it does hit the market. I do like the game engine they've moved over to.
I believe it will be a major improvement and better then Trainz from what I've read and seen so far, IMO.

:)

MSTS2 won't be out until late 2009 at the earliest, so I would curtail the excitement for now (as I have done) and enjoy what we have got.

As regards FSX, I have become thoroughly disillusioned at the relative lack of new items (freeware and payware) which are being released and have reverted to FS2004, which has thousands upon thousands of available aircraft and other items. And, of course, the icing on the cake - FS Passengers! I have a vague fear MSTS2 may prove to be as hollow and empty.

New is not necessarily better (a point some of us are trying to make to Auran on the TRS2009 Dev boards until purple in the face).

I would agree with the basic point, but unless TRS2009 is demonstrably better, there will be buyer resistance.

I Want both MSTS 2 and TRAINZ09 just to see who's come further in the last 8 or more years. I still cant find the EA railsim game her in Perth so havent been able to try that, Will have to get TC3 soon i guess if just for the pokemon value alone (gotta getem all!) And I hope I get another 8 yrs enjoyment out of both of them for another 8 or more years :)

Just looking at Tony's Foto's ( http://picasaweb.google.com.au/thilliam/Trainz ) I was wondering if there are any MSTS2 shots in there ? Then looking at the latest route screenshots on http://tsinsider.com/Articles/WorkInProgress/BNSFStevensPassGallery.aspx . I just cant wait for either of them !

Auran and MSTS2 should add the realism of derails and collsions with other trains, level X ing accidents etc as it is part n parcel of REAL daily life. They dont have to add the blood and gore or even body work damage to the model but I think both the vehicle hit and the Train your driving, should at least derail realisticly with proper weight n gravity n physics etc. I still recall finding a Trainz consist several hills behind were it derailed once.. still makes me laugh today.

My only other wish list for both SIMS is for AI that can operate 100% correctly, no more back ups, wierd yard siding combinational moves, slamming into consists on coupling, running into buffers at Dead end tracks etc etc, we wouldnt dare let the AI run our real life trains and since these are both going to be Realism Simulators then why should we expect any less for our Hobby ?

Heres Hoping it only gets better. :mop:

I have both FS9 and FSX. IMHO, FSX is better. Just look at the lack of features FS9 has compared to FSX. FSX has plenty of addons available now.

And anyone with a not-so-powerful computer will want to stay from MSTS2 considering it will use the FSX graphics engine.
