Moving TS2010 SP3 to second HD

A few weeks ago I purchased a second hard drive. I was needing the space for my DVD's.

Yesterday I finally got around to moving Trainz to the second hard drive. Both drives are identical Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA.

The first thing I did was export all of my own stuff as a single .CDP for safe keeping. I also have individual .CDP's for each session.

Next I made a copy of the entire 2010 folder, not gonna risk losing anything.

I uninstalled trainz and deleted what was left.

Installed and patched Trainz to SP3 on the second drive.

Then the problems started.

Attempted several times to import with CM from the previously made copy of the local folder. CM crashed every time after a few KUIDs.

Did an extended database repair.

Then I imported the previously saved .CDP and re-downloaded all the missing assets. All of my sessions now have missing consists and drivers. There are only 2 drivers remaining for every session. The only part that seemed intact was the schedule library. Deleting and re-importing the many individual .CDPs was also a similiar failure. All .CDPs where created and imported with SP3 patched Trainz.

So I deleted the entire newly installed 2010 folder and copied the previously saved 2010 folder into its place.

Everything is now exactly as before the move with the exception of a few rolling stock items which are no longer in place on my sessions, yet CM does not show them missing or faulty. Can't find any faults with downloaded sessions.

The big question is: Has anyone had similar problems and found a solution?

As a side note I had anticipated slightly better load times by moving Trainz to the second hard drive.

It turned out to be much better.:) Switching between AI drivers has much less "invisible train / asset pop up" time; The move really loves UMR2010:D . ECML sessions show distinctly less stutter.:)

In the end the move will have been well worth it.

Now I have to wait for my new video card which UPS tracking reports has left Indianapolis as of 9:33 PM.

heres what i do to move trainz around either from an old windows install or to a new drive.

assuming the install you have already is working fine and is patched up to date:

1. install ts2010 to the desired new location with only the core files selected at setup.
2. copy old trs directly to that location.

no patching, no fuss. the only wait time you have is copying your old install to wherever it needs to go.

ive done this twice with no problems that i can detect.

Ultimately that is what I did.

But for some strange reason some of my rolling stock went on vacation.

all i know is ive had problems doing that, including opening assets for edit and not being able to find where they are, drag-dropping assets into cmp not working... its just a lot safer to do a fast install of the core files where you want it to reside, takes maybe one minute.
