Moscow Metro Installation?

Can anybody explain how you install the Moscow metro in Trainz 2010? I don't seem to be doing it right, because I get many missing dependencies and when I run the route, all the tunnels and trains are gray (i.e. no textures). Please excuse me if I act like I'm new to Trainz because I am ;)

Welcome to Trainz and to the forums, bnjpov! This will be the most addicting hobby you'll ever embark on in you life. :D

Now you chose a biggie to install due to the number of outside dependencies. You couldn't have tried something easier first off of the Download Station. :)

Have you checked the Russian Trainz sites such as

www.trainz.ru ?

and

http://rutrainz.com/ ?

Unless you can read Russian, I suggest you use either Bing or Google translator for assistance.

It would be nice if all the download layouts came complete with all dependencies, but it's a real world out there. Quite a number of layout downloads have been prepared by beginners with a few strange ideas, so you will get some 'weird and wonderful' layouts on one or two baseboards that have had a few tracks laid and nothing else. When you download these and you see what you are getting, then its very easy to delete those files from your computer and look for something better.

Try 'A & SLT Multiplayer' or 'Clinchfield' or 'NSW North Coast MP' or 'Port Oron to Thompson Heights' - these guys have done the hard yards and prepared great layouts. If you want to modify them to suit your own needs, then it is simple to do that. Have fun with the great material out there and delete the ones that don't shape up. Cheers, Roy

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to find routes that do not require dependencies from one place or another, whether it's from the Download Station or a third-party site.

I downloaded the assets from those sites, no help. Tunnels and trains are still gray- stations are fine though. Does anyone know where the missing dependencies are? Also, I have found that Trainz 2010 runs very slow on my PC. I find this weird because I can run TS2013 and WOS3 smoothly on the highest settings without a problem but even on the lowest settings I can only get 7-9 FPS on Trainz.

Are all the, non-built-in items gray, or just these?

You may have texture compression enabled which will cause weird things like this to happen. It's a driver issue with your video card, and nothing to do with the program its self. There are some setting that can take of that.

For help with your performance issues, please post your machine specs. I suggest starting a new thread for both of these new issues because they are separate from the missing dependencies.

I tried installing these routes as well, and I gave up on the missing items. I was hoping you or someone else could have had better luck than I. :)

The tunnels, tracks, and the trains are gray. Everything else is fine. And the lag issues were fixed with a simple graphics diver update (duh!)

The tunnels and trains are okay in my installation, and there are no missing dependencies for either of these. My inkling is that your file compression is on. In Content Manager, uncheck this option.
Go into File Settings.
Click on the Miscellaneous tab.
Uncheck the checkbox.

Highlight these items in the Assets list.
Press CTRL+E to Open for Edit.
Press CTRL+M to Commit them back in.

This should solve your problem with these items and going forward there shouldn't be an issue with anything else other than the usual missing dependencies if there are any.

Hey that worked! Thanks! Now if only I can install the informator pack.......

Also, one other thing. When driving, if the speed limit is exceeded, a beeping starts and the train stops and nothing I try will get it moving again- is there a button you have to push? I'm not sure what the Russian word for "Safety system reset" is ;)

I'm glad you got the texture-thing fixed.

I don't know about the controls because I haven't exceeded the speed limits since I only tried the trains once because I've been busy with other things at the moment. There is a way to turn the rule off in the session by editing the session in Surveyor if you want to do that. I think the challenge of keeping the train from going into emergency is part of the realism. There are probably a gazillion switches to hit to get the train moving again. Check on YouTube for a video on that. There is one up there for the Russian electric locomotives.

Slight bump... I downloaded this route (Moscow Maloyaroslavets) from the DLS, crossed my fingers and toes to download the external dependencies from Mother Russia (at least they were in cdp not exe format). However on installation the Russian assets were trying to overwrite quite a number of built in assets (to which I declined) and on attempting to load the route in Surveyor to create a session (the route doesn't come with any supplied) after 10 minutes Trainz still hanging, Ctrl-Alt-Del revealed programme stopped working. Now uninstalled the route, just hope it hasn't done any lasting damage to my Trainz install or wider PC.
