i know my old thread about a new rig was cool but i set down and discussed with my mom. we can only get from Dell since she has credit there.
I found out how to get more for less in the system.

Hows this sound?

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit
Red Bezel Chassis
6GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
1TB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs)
Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
No Monitor
Dual ATI Radeon HD3870 512MB GDDR4
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

total : $1,739

Sorry guys but i'm gunna have to stick with vista for now, there are too many programs i use that are vista only.

whoops wrong processor! ^

Intel® Core™2 E8400 (6MB,3.0 GHz, 1333FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit
Red Bezel Chassis
6GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
1TB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs)
Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
No Monitor
Dual ATI Radeon HD3870 512MB GDDR4
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

$1,689

and its even cheaper!

what kind of frames would i expect to see with this system? In routes like derrmys clovis sub or TPR's clinchfield extension?

Raid 0 could be a problem, if either drive goes you lose the contents of both. It may give you slightly better prefromance but Bloodnok's notes suggest drive latency rather than anything else is the only thing that matters to Trainz.

thanks for the info all.

This computer would not be very taxed by almost any route you throw at it.
sweet, maybe i can run routes without a slideshow LOL

Typo .... I hope ??

If not , it's not a good idea to to mix your ram like that .

idk, thats just the deal dell has going on right now. they have 6gb RAM installed

I, myself, have only heard good things about this processor. In most benchmarks that I have looked at for mainstream processors, that is usually at 7 or 8.
ok, sounds good

whats RAID 0? i'll just stick with what I have here. my mom likes the new price.

...cut...

whats RAID 0? i'll just stick with what I have here. my mom likes the new price.

RAID0 is where two hard drives inside the computer are connected together so that half of any/all data goes onto one drive, and half goes on the other. However, this does not keep parts of a file together, as it is done by the motherboard generally at the bit level, so it is like a queue of people holding bits (pun intended) of a jigsaw puzzle, and one person being sent to a room on the left, and the next to a room on the right, and so on, and the jigsaw, or file, is reassembled when the right people leave the rooms. Therefore, if one of the rooms cannot be accessed, the jigsaw cannot be reformed.

RAID0 also provides twice the space to one hard drive on it's own, but you/windows will only ever "see" one hard drive. RAID0 is also supposed to be faster, but there is very little noticeable difference.

Anyway, the computer you listed above comes with RAID0 Preinstalled.

It's all about latency , like these ... Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 PC2-6400 2GB Kit 5-5-5-18 240pin DIMM , and making sure that the you get the same timings in the sets they give you . It'll still run dual channel , but performance will suffer by mixing timings and densities. ....... 4gig is good 8 gig is good , 6gig is not so good .

I had a quick peek at Dell ... but they don't seem to like posting all the details :(

I know they're selling you Vista 64 ( so ignore the 32bit reference )

Corsair Support says the same thing ..

I would not suggest using more than 4 Gig of memory with any 32 Bit O.S. and mixing memory is not a good idea. But yes it will work but you might have to run them at DDR667 with more than two modules installed.

my mom likes the new price.

If ur moms happy , everything is cool :D
