More 'abuse' of the DLS...

This message is hidden because amigacooke is on your ignore list.

Don't sweat about OverlordNZ - I think that everyone who says anything he doesn't like gets on his ignore list. I suspect I'll be joining you any second...

...mind you I can't work out what you said either.

For anyone who has downloaded these 'updates', make sure that you don't save a route that uses them until you've deleted the new versions. Otherwise Trainz will be expecting to see the new version in the route, and it will appear as a missing dependency.

In reference to someone uploading placeholders to the DLS

Hopefully no-one else will do this kind of thing again. It's a very childish thing to do as the knock on effect means it can spoil everyone's enjoyment of trainz just because someone throws their dummy out of the pram. :'(

Regards.
CaptEngland

I consider that childish..and worthy of ignorance

Cheers

There seems to be a few authors who upload useless and dare I say, stupid items and routes on the DLS (referring to the person who uploaded a single baseboard, which had a circuit of road on it, and was otherwise blank).

On the first point, he's entitled to express his opinion, which I thought he did in a reasonable manner. There is a difference (as far as I'm concerned) between placing a 'placeholder' for a new item on the DLS, and obsoleting a perfectly good asset with a placeholder (especially when it appears that there is no-where to get a copy of the real asset). I personally can't see why you didn't use the external link for your fixes of Dave's trees, but ultimately if Dave is happy, that's your business and I respect that.

On the second point, I'm entirely in agreement with CaptEngland. It really is schoolyard stuff: "I don't like you anymore so I'm going to take my toys away". I really thought that we were all old enough to get beyond that.

Paul, you would think that, wouldn't you? However, you must consider the fact that the Trainz community is a vast one, encompassing people of all ages, occupations and, I am not meaning to be nasty here, stages of mental development.
Unfortunately for the community, this means that there are people who can and will consider and/or carry out these types of pointless acts, whatever there 'motivation' may be.

Let's hope that this unpleasant issue is sorted soon.

Matt.

Thanks must go to Auran / N3V for the replace assets tool, very easy to get rid of all that rubbish with something better, i can't see why people getting so upset

Hi Everybody.
is this the enemy within.......?.......I wonder

The above was a joke…..j.o.k.e

And that do you mean be that? Do you mean me, or NikkiA?

It was not meant against you CaptEngland and certainly not for NikkiA. However, if you wish me to be serious I will be.

Did nobody seriously believe that this “sabotage”would not happen. Just think back a few months to when Auran announced it was dropping support for the earlier versions of Trainz. We then had some content creators stating that they would no longer create content for 2010 and that would cause 2010 to wither on the vine and die. It did not happen.

We then had Auran/NP3 announce that it would allow content not up to the standards of 2010 to be updated by anyone who had the necessary skills to carry this out. Again “outrage” from content creators who did not wish to create for 2010 and did not wish to upgrade their own content to that standard. They stated that it was their content etc and no one had the right to touch that. Again many hundreds of assets have been updated despite their protests and the Trainz world has not fallen in.

Therefore after months of argument and discord on the forum it would appear that the Trainz management team policy has come through to the advantage of the vast majority of current users. Those who have supported that policy have often been “lambasted” on the forum for that support even though the benefits are now there for all to see.

It would therefore seem very unsurprising to me that among those whose actions and opinions have been overruled and shown to be incorrect would be some who would still wish to cause disruption and argument. This thread is giving them for the first time exactly what they want. That is to see forum members arguing and flaming each other over the actions of a single person or a very small minority.

My advice would be to just ignore them. If you find one of these “place markers” in your route just delete it from your route and asset list then report it to the Trainz team

Trainz is an interest at most a hobby. A few dud assets on the DLS is not the end of the world. So everybody just ignore it and lighten up.

Long story short, the DLS is in the process of being upgraded so all the content works error-free in TS2009 and TS2010. The job to fix content is offered first to the original creator of the content, then offered to a member of the community if the original creator does not respond. Whoever fixed this particular piece of content obviously sabotaged it.

There has been a huge amount of controversy here, especially with Auran's decision to end free DLS access for users of older versions of Trainz. Normally, this place is pretty harmonious except for that.

Hi Everybody.

I have to agree with your statement there RRSignal, there has been a huge amount of controversy over last few months. However, in the past couple of weeks that seemed to have gone away with some very humorous threads along with some great discussion in others.

I particularly liked the " beer is brain food" thread started by pfx which I felt turned out to be absolutely hilarious. Along with that was the thread on " privatizing American rail passenger services" which proved to be a great discussion forum on that topic shared by members all over the world.

Both the above threads proved what a great community this can be for those wishing to discuss the Trainz simulator and worldwide railways in general. I am sure that the vast majority of forum members wish it to be that way. Therefore as members wishing that, let us not see it return to the flaming and controversy of the past months.

Many of us (including me) have said harsh things to other members over recent weeks and months, but with the success of the upgrading of assets for TRS2010 now is the time to move forward and try and put all that behind. Let's not see the actions of one or two members who refuse to move forward bring down everything again.

In my content I always include a thumbnail but in certain instances download station didn't always display them.

I've also never understood why you have the option to have hidden files on the DLS, or links to third party sites when CMP simply shows the hidden or linked files anyway.

Paul
Now, you've been around long enough to know why.;) CM came after these two features were allowed, links to third party sites were done during TRS2004 to halp people looking through DLS find those third party sites so they get attention. I think there were a bunch of reasons for hidden assets, think Lamp Post Linda for one.
Both these two DLS features worked until Auran went with CM.

Err great. Do not release a version of anything that is the same as that made by another creator, that is irrespectfull and if the stuff was copyrighted violates copyright laws.
This is serious.

Not sure what 'irrespectfull' means (not in the dictionary).

Thanks for pointing out that it was meant to be a joke! No hard feelings.

I was more annoyed at what OverloadNZ wrote. Nice two posts from you, by the way. The only thing that I can't forgive you for is that you support M.U :hehe: (Liverpool supporter that I am). :'( (J.O.K.E.)

Back on topic.

I have noticed that not all the updated items seem to appear in the update section of trainz 2010. By this I mean that when I used CM3.3, I had more items that had been obsoleted show up, which did not show in the update section in the game. Is this just me, or have other people noticed this?

Regards.
CaptEngland (Soon to be ignored by all Man. U. fans on trainz).

I notice that all of the bad content updates for myself are from User: Trainz2007. Is this the only user that had provided the bad updates, or do I have to look for others?

Also, what is the actual harm that can be done if these updates are installed by accident? :o
