Hello Community,
I would like to take a minute to update you on some of the news that has been developing over the past few months at the Monticello Railway Museum.
As many of you know, I volunteer there, and boy, we have made so much progress the past few months!
Here we go,
Illinois Central SD40 #6071:
On March 26th, 2010 the Monticello Railway Museum accepted delivery of Illinois Central #6071, an EMD SD40 locomotive, a very generous donation by the Canadian National Railway.
It was the prototype SD40, Built on an SD35 frame and was the first of over 5,000 subsequent models. The unit is going to recieve a cosmetic restoration to reflect it's heritage as Gulf, Mobile and Ohio #950. Eventually it will return to operation. The museum is accepting donations for her restoration that will cost in excess of $100,000. If you would like to donate any amount, a tax deducible donation to...

Wabash Business Car #6:
The museum has recently accepted delivery of Wabash #6 a business car that had been in storage for over 30 years. Built in 1929.
Illinois Central diner 4112:
Our dining car, #4112 has been primed and is ready to be painted inside and out.
This car will see service in the near future.
Southern 2-8-0 #401:
After over 15 years of restoration work, Southern 401 is returning to the rails this year.
The locomotive is nearly done with little work left to complete, and it is possible that the locomotive will be running on Railroad Days 2010, TBA.
Rock Island Coach #2541:
Our mainstay, #2541 has received new seats this year and has had the interior worked on.
Illinois Central coach #2855:
#2855 is possibly going to be restored for Polar Express capacity this year.
NEW INTERSTATE SIGNS!!!
The museum is now visible via I-72, just look for 'Attractions EXIT 166' we have a sign on there now.
CARBARN #2 TO BE BUILT!
The museum is adding another car barn, it will host 15 passenger cars on three tracks.

Hope to see some of you this year!

Cheers,
Woody:wave:

 Wow you guys shure do know how to get stuff done up there. I wish some of the places here in Texas would move at the pace you guys do. That would be incredible

that is great news, especially with the 401 returning to steam, you guys are doing a wonderful job, keep us posted on the diesel end and more!;)

Thanks Guys.

We are really looking forward to turning 401 loose this year. She is really a fine steam locomotive regardless of her fuel situation.
By far though, the biggest move this year was the IC 6071...or as I like to say, GM&O 950.
The year ahead looks bright for us as we continue to grow, we've really been blessed to have such success.

Cheers,
Woody:wave:
