Monitor problem !!

I am having some problems with trainz 2010 in that after playing for anything from 10 to 30 minutes everything is OK and then without warning the monitor will go blank leaving me with a black screen.

My computer is still running but my monitor is blank except for a message saying no signal.

This problem also happens on rail works, everything else is OK in that I can leave the computer on for hours its only when playing these two games that things go wrong.

Could my monitor be on its way out in that it cannot cope with the games or a PC problem any help would be greatly appreciated.

had same problem few weeks back..
graphics card is on the way out..mine started like that then it just never came back on..

i hope im wrong in your case ,but wasnt on my case

I thought my video card was going south, as odd jagged cut off monitor displays, blue screens, crash dumps, "IRQL is not equal to or less than" ... etc ... etc ...

I think the old one was bad, so I replaced it with a $119 one ... now everything is hunky dorey !

Could be a temperature related thing...

Make sure the cooling fans are working and blow the dust off the heat sink surfaces (if any) on your video card.

I temporarily tape my fans so they can't spin, and blow out my PC with a 360mph leaf blower:hehe:

Thanks for the information and have cleaned out all the dust, so instead of the monitor going blank it now freezes instead so it might be a trip to the repairers and see what they can do.

Guess it has reached its end of its life period must have been put to hardcore gaming a lot am I right? Would make sense that it would burn out so fast and if your computer does not have good ventlation it will overheat for sure.

Most programs only use the cpu and gpu for around 10% of the time and that's high a wordprocessor for example will use the cpu for maybe 2% of the time.

Trainz runs the cpu at 100% which means there is more heat to get rid of. Most computers brought on price assume they can skimp on the cooling side since the cpu will probably be used 10%. Trainz blows that assumption.

Solutions are things like extra cpu coolers etc. If you are lucky and have a decent motherboard surh as some ASUS ones there is a utility that can tell you the cpu and motherboard temperatures. This will confirm its a temperature problem.
