Monitor Advice

Howdy folks,

Time has come to look around for a new desktop monitor as my now 7 year old 24" Samsung IPS now pushes up daisies. I'm now comparing between two different brands that appear to have very much the same overall features.

Asus PB278Q 27" LED, PLS 2560 x 1440 5ms Backlight Professional.

Dell UltraSharp U2713H 27" LED, IPS 2560 x 1440.

Even though the Dell is a little out of my price range and is already available, some might say it's slightly better than the Asus model, which I would have to wait 3 weeks for delivery.

If anyone here owns one of these screens as listed above, and can provide me with any pros & cons regarding performance, FPS, pixel rendering and what not, your assistance would be greatly appreciated in helping me make a wise decision.

Cheers

Generally speaking Dell repackage other manufacturers ASUS is a manufacturer.

From the Dell write up on Newegg.com

"Stunning color precision and performance: U2713H with PremierColor comes factory color calibrated to support 99% AdobeRGB which enables brilliant and accurate color hues and saturation. Six axis color control enables further user customization, professional color critical work." professional colour critical work costs money the last 10% doubles the price is a good rule of thumb, apart from that it depends on local pricing Newegg.com currently is $560 for the ASUS and $999 for the Dell.

It's worth while reading through the reviews on Newegg.com for both, the more positive reviews the better. The Dell has only one review and that is negative, apparently has a technical problem to do with USB ports which has caused some friction on the Dell support forum. The ASUS has many positive reviews. The cost of the design gets spread over the number of units sold, judging by the number of reviews I'd say you are paying a higher price on the Dell since fewer have been sold.

Be aware that your current monitor is probably 1920x1200 (2,304,000 pixels) and the new one are 2560 x 1440 (3,686,400 pixels) that's nearly twice as many pixels to drive so expect your frame rates to drop.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply.

I've been looking more in to this and haven't reached a conclusion I am yet satisfied with, as you stated; it's worth reading thoroughly through the reviews. This is turning out to be quite time consuming googling around for a decent quality, value for money 27" monitor deciding whether or not it should be 60hz or 120hz which might also help make a difference and handle reasonably well under the stress of a 7970 gfx card.

Time will tell!

Cheers
