Modifying CNJ Blue Comet coach

I discovered a "trick" that might let me reskin the coach. Normally, the Blue Comet stuff is "locked" within 2010 CMP. You can't clone or edit it. But, there is an option to "save as CDP". I saved it as CDP and it created a CDP file of the coach. I then opened it with Trainz 2004 CDP. It extracted the files to TRS2004. I went to the 2004 dispatcher folder and found the folder containing the coach files. I then used Images2TGA to open the texture file for the main body of the coach, and saved a TGA file of the file. Now, I can view and edit the texture of the coach. But, I can't seem to color it right because if I use a magic wand to select parts of the coach, when I recolor not all of it is recolored to the new color, like the roof some blue is still visible but I want it black. The coach exterior walls I want maroon. What program out there (preferably freeware) can recolor the walls and roof of the coach without leaving any blue behind? What do I do next after I'm finished repainting the TGA file? Can I just move it over to the Blue Comet coach folder that was saved to 2004 with the trick I did then import the folder in to 2010 using CMP? And edit the config to give it a different filename and different kuid so that it doesn't conflict with the original coach.

I would watch out there - as it is payware, you will probably find that you may only be able to do it (if at all) for personal use only.

It's just for my own personal use. I want to reskin it into a Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern coach. The RBMN coaches are maroon with black roofs. It is a regional railroad headquartered in Port Clinton, PA and they operate freight and excursions sometimes with Baldwin Pacific #425. They have a fleet of 9 coaches that look just like the Blue Comet coach but maroon and black roofs. I like that the coach has an interior. I remember Marlboro had a coach like that and it was maroon but he never released them. There's only 1 other coach out there for Trainz that has a rideable interior and is a closed end steel heavyweight open window coach from the 1920's, and that is the YVRR coaches by bendorsey but they're kind of plain, and plain interior. Unless you know of any others. I searched everywhere with no luck. Magicland's have no interior at all.

I don't have the Blue Comet, and thus don't have its license to check... But does it allow aliased reskins? those should, logically, be 'ok' since anyone downloading the reskin would need the original for it to work at all.

This also applies to the Coronation, I suspect, since it'll only come in 2 liveries out of the many they actually sported through their career...

For most payware, (and I'm pretty sure that includes DLC content, even though I have not got TS2010 to be able to test it), the license normally only allows reskins for personal use only as it would be a potentially messy problem if a reskin is released (especially if Auran/N3V did create the DLC content in question, as they have the ability to reject it if it is uploaded to the DLS)

I need help on what to do next, after I finished repainting the coach texture file. Do I move the tga into the folder where the coach reskin will be and do I get rid of the texture file or keep it? I think the extract files trick only works if you have both 2010 and 2004 because after exporting to cdp, you need to extract the cdp to 2004 by opening it with 2004's cdp using open with in order to extract the files from the cdp so that they're editable.

This is my coach texture file. I repainted the body red/maroon, and the roof black. I want to model this coach http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=175155 What do I do next? Do I move the tga into the folder where my coach reskin will be? Do I delete the original texture file? How do I import it into 2010 then? Use the CMP?

Just throwing it out there for prototypical purposes. The RBMN coaches are old Erie Lackawanna EMUs that Muller modified.

Well, this coach looks close enough for me. It has about 20 windows across, which is what the RBMN coaches have, same roof type, etc. so I don't mind using it for an RBMN coach. About the tga file that I modified, what do I do with it? Do I need to convert it back into a texture file or just leave it as is?

I'm happy to report that the coach repaint worked! It no longer shows up as faulty.
