Models, terrain very slow to load and update

This is a problem with a layout I am building. It can take minutes for everything to get loaded so it appears on screen, if it ever does. If I move things around in surveyor, after a few moments, the display gives up updating the view (so the cuirsor circle still moves, but the terrain and objects just get stuck). I can get around it by looking at another part of the layout, which seems to remind the system to redraw things.

Other layouts seem to work fine (though I have not been editing them). I have a pretty high spec PC (Win 7 64bit, GeForce FT 430 GPU), so I doubt that is the problem. I only bought the game last weekend, so the layout really is not that complicated (4 baseboards, not that well decorated as yet). I have loaded up without the session and the same thing happens, so I guess that means it is not the rolling stock.

Can anyone suggest what the problem is here, and hw to fix it?

Hello F2Andy,

I had the same problem with Trainz2009. In my case roads, models, trees, etc loaded all very slowly. I even created a simple road myself, but the result was the same.

When installed with service pack 1 - the result was a bit better. It got worse installing service pack 2 and wasn't fixed installing service pack 3.

I even created a helpdeskticket, and I attached my simple route to the ticket. At the helpdesk, they had never seen that kind of issue.

No solution could be found, neither by the helpdesk nor me or somebody else within this forum.

I finally decided to buy Trainz2010 and I am using it without any issues.

Perhaps the helpdesk have found a solution for this problem. My advice is to create a helpdeskticket and see if a solution is available.

If necessary I can always give you the nr of my closed helpdeskticket.

Best regards

I found the problem, and thought I would update the thread in case it helps someone else.

In option, developer mode, I turned on the diagnostic options, and then looked at how my figures compared to a layout that runs okay (I chose the Canadian one set in 1954, as it has some pretty busy areas).

unprocessed requests: 4149

I am guessing this is all the stuff not being drawn. In the working layout, this was zero.

worst buffer count: 1681

This was about ten times higher than in the working layout. It also gave a KUID of the worst offender. Turned out it was the track to blame (in fact I would be warying of any track for KUID 60850:380xx). Changing the track to a simpler version using asset replace has got my layout working fine.
