Migrating Trainz to a New Computer?

I am migrating to a new laptop (yes, I know, laptops are not ideal for Trainz). I am using a "Windows Easy Transfer" cable to move all my files over. I know it does not transfer software and that I will need to reinstall Trainz.

Is there anything I should be aware of before doing this? Can anyone who has done this before give me any advice? I will still have access to the old laptop (though it has given me signs the drive is on the way out, hence the move now before that happens!), but I obviously don't want to lose routes I'm working on.

Thanks!

It would be wise to make CDP backups of everthing important to you on a USB flash drive. Also backup (copy) your local folder to the same drive.

Not necessarily. It'd be worth trying just a straight folder copy, works for TS10 and TS12 though I've never tried with 09. If it works it will save you some hassle. TS10 and 12 can be 'installed' on a new machine simply by copying the entire install off the old disk. No registry hassles, no CM-can't-find-it hassles etc. My experience includes repeat copying back and forth between machines running XP (32 bit) and Win7 (64 bit)...

Hi Demmy,

The route I am presently building is with TRS09. I had a massive pc crash and lost most of my OS. However I had a complete copy of both the route and the whole Trainz 09 Folder on a portable Hard Drive. I got the pc fixed and simply tramsferred the whole TRS Folder to it and have continued my build.

Well, I just copied the folders over and, sure enough, Trainz opened just fine!:D

However...my cursor is missing. Any ideas why it would go missing!?

Thanks!

I should add - the cursor is there, in so much as when I love the mouse around, I can see buttons "illuminate" and I can click on them. I just can't see the arrow itself.

Have a look in the control panel, then open the mouse section and check the pointer option.

It turned out to be the fancy cursor I was using. When I switched it back to the generic Windows arrow, it appeared fine in Trainz.
