Michigan Southern

I've been working on this route for a couple months, and it's starting to get to the point of having some scenic appeal, so I thought I'd post a few shots.

The Michigan Southern is a small outfit that runs between White Pigeon and Sturgis, MI, mostly on the old PRR right of way. There is a long spur running south out of Sturgis on what used to be GR&I trackage to serve a single customer near the Indiana state line. All told, the MSO owns about 17 miles of track, and in the summer of 2011, served about eight customers. The line runs Monday/Wednesday/Friday, picking up interchange traffic dropped off in White Pigeon by the Grand Elk Railroad (part of the WAMX system). RRMods released some really nice WAMX EMD units recently, that go nicely here (though no shots of those yet, since the interchange doesn't have much scenery yet). The 907 pictured here is a private commission by Joint Rail, and nicely done.

907 heading west, just past the Route 12 crossing.

A few hundred feet later, crossing Klinger Lake Road, with Black Gold Farms in the background.

West of the Klinger Lake Road crossing, there's a derelict boat that makes for an interesting photo.
