Merging Routes

Hi all again.

I have TS12 58414 and cannot merge any routes at all. I get a message that Trainz is not responding.

I have gone to all the Forums for an answer and tried all the things that they suggest but nothing works.
I also noticed that the last complaint on this issue was a year or so ago and nothing has been done.

I E-Mailed Auran and no response yet.

Is this something that came with 12? Why is it taking so very long to fix this? Why not even a update on the fix progress?

I am a bit irritated over this. Being in business as long as I have, you learn when a company chooses to ignore a problem, they will ignore many others.

Is there a fix on this? If so where is it posted.

Thanks
Pieter

Depends on what you call a small route? I am trying to put a large one to my small one. My small one has about 13 squares. I have also put my small route to my large one.
I have made sure no layers are the same name, all my consists are off the route prayed to the virtual train God and stood on my head while whistling the them song from The Ten Commandments.

Hi Pieter,

As Shane says, give the program time to merge stuff in. I have merged in several very large routes, with one being over 100 miles and another about the same or a little less into the same route. Once you get the merger candidate route in place, and get things ready to lock in place, wait a minute or two after the display returns to normal in Surveyor. I have found that if you go too quickly at first, you can cause the not-responding message. I have also found that if that happens, just wait a minute and the control comes back. The not-responding message is really the program saying "Wait! I'm busy doing stuff and can't answer back or do anything at the moment!"

I think you may be whistling the wrong song, last time I done this I was humming away to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass playing Spanish Flea on a continuous loop.

I think this bug has been fixed in SP1 since I have been successful a number of times. I always merge any route layers before trying to merge the maps and I always merge the small map into the larger one.

Don't try altering a route (for example deleting overlapping boards) then merging straight away. Always save, exit surveyor to the routes menu, load (one of) the route again, then merge.

Thanks guys. I will try again and this time wait longer. And maybe whistle Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd)
I will let you know what happens.

Hi all

Got the merge to work. I guess patience is not one of my virtues. However, The route I merged to is 500 feet or units lower than the one it was supposed to mate to. A little much for my trains to jump. I will try to figure out what I did wrong and get back to you. Or maybe someone knows why I am such a putz.

Thanks
Pieter

Hi Pieter,

The 500 feet or so is something that will require "tween" boards because there is no way, other than by using TransDem which doesn't work all the time anyway, to alter the height. The biggest challenge will be to make your tween boards blend between the routes so no one can tell the difference. It's also a great way to learn route building techniques.

As JCitron stated the only way I have been able to make them the same or close is with TransDEM and so far (knock on wood) I have had good success in changing the elevation.
