MBTA Franklin Line (Readville to Forge Park/495)

The route is looking great so far. Can you please help me with this. Sorry to get off topic but I would like to build the whole tri state area. First, I downloaded the 1km baseboards from the dls, then I edited them in explorer. After that, I went into Google Earth, and then got a view of the area that I would like to put on the 1km baseboard. I hit Prntscrn on my keyboard, and after that, I replaced the original image file with the one I just got from google earth. Then I commited it in the CMP and viewed it in surveyor. It was bigger than the baseboard, and the picture quality was not as good as the one shown in your route.

After that, I read a couple of tutorials which were a bit difficult to follow, so I just continued with what I was doing. I downloaded the 720x720 baseboards from the dls, and then I edited the basemaps in explorer. Since I don't have photoshop, paint shop pro, or 3dsmax, I just edited the image file with paint.net and gimp 2, then I replaced the orighinal image with the one I had gotten from google earth. After that, I saved it and then commited it in the CMP. For some reason, after I commited it, I viewed it in surveyor, and my map isn't on the 720x720 basemap. It just shows the default image that came with it.

Can you please help me. Are you using the 1km basemap or the 720x720 basemap. If you can, can you give me some step by step instructions on how you got the basemaps and how you got the good detail in them.

I am using the 1 km baseboards, a program called Google Map Buddy, and Photoshop. I can send you the PDFs of Trainz Community News which has tutorials of how to get the baseboards to show the area in good detail.

JCitron - I'm creating the route in Trainz 2009 and I'm not sure how to convert it to previous versions.

Terry,

No worries on a previous version for me, I'm at 12 already. ;)

The F40s came from JR... No problem I'll look and see. :D
WiFi cars? You get them from Trainz Commuter Rail, perhaps. I'm a member up there and will have to look who has them.

Ok, I could definitely use those pdf's.:) Just send me a pm. Just one question though? Are the 1km baseboards good for real scale and distances even though they take up more than one baseboard.

Excellent work! If I ever get back into learning 3ds Max I could probably make some basic custom content for you (maybe like the MBTA's station signs). I'll PM you if that ever comes to fruition.

can you make a version for ts10? i love northeastern commuter trainz!!

also, how can you do that google maps thing on surveyor? every time i build a route, i use a printed pic of google maps

I use a program called Google map buddy. You select an area and it generates small photos of everything in the area and stitches them together. You then go to Google earth and draw a 1km line and use the line to locate the locations of both ends of the line in Photoshop. Open the big photo of your area in Photoshop and draw 1km line and create a 1km box for your 1km baseboards.

Can you use gimp, or paint.net? Also, I am not sure what seems to be accurate. The 1km baseboards are bigger than the baseboards in surveyor, and the 720x720 baseboards are the same size as a baseboard in surveyor. I'll look into that google map buddy.

I think you can use those two programs and the 720 baseboards. Just remember to draw the 720m boxes over the aerial photo generated by Google Map Buddy and put them on the baseboards. :)

Norwood Centre Completed!!!

I finally completed Norwood Centre, including Norwood Depot and Norwood Central Stations!! The next phase will be Walpole, Norfolk, and Franklin after polishing up the current phase of the route!

Very nice, Terry. This is coming along very well.

Where did you get those double-decks? They look awesome.

Ahh looks amazing :) - I'm actually more excited to see Readville. Very hard station to model, I hope you include the Fairmont / NEC side of it... you can expand even via the Fairmont side... lol

edit: Also, were did you get the F40, and the lower level cars with the WIFI signal? I remember, there was a website, but I can't think what it was called.. protrainzroutes?
