making scenarios

I need a walk through for making my own scenario, i.e., have a session instructing which cars to p/u, forming trains and setting out rolling stock. It seems it would be simple if I knew the steps. Microsoft train sim. had a good way to do it but many other parts were very complicated. I have know knowledge about objectives, etc. If someone can lead me thru something simple I think I could pick it up. Hope there's someone out there with suggestions.

thanks in advance

Do you mean a scenario or a session? In Trainz they are related but very different things.

TRS2004 can handle both scenarios and sessions. TRS2006, TC and TS2009 can only handle sessions.

Scenarios are written in a programming language similar to C. Sessions are created using a graphical interface in Surveyor.

It's easier to create trivially simple activities as sessions. For any non-trivial activity IMHO it's easier to create a scenario.

For an introduction to scenario programming, try this tutorial.

For an introduction to session creation, try the TRS2006 Rules And Sessions Guide.

In addition, Trainz Pro Routes offer their SCS (Scenario Creation System) free of charge. There are separate versions for TRS2004 and TRS2006. Many people find this a good way of creating activities.

Your answer is: It's a typo.:hehe: trs2006, tc and trs2009 can only handle sessions.

Sessions are easy to set up, once you get to grips with issuing Driver Commands and setting Trackmarks, Priority Markers and Direction Markers to ensure your AI trains don't misbehave.

The reason why it is harder to set up than MSTS is that there is so much more that can be done with Trainz. Loading / unloading, yard shunting, locos decoupling and running round their trains at terminii, portals generating random trains, swallowing up trains or even swallowing trains up and causing them to come back out again in the opposite direction a few minutes later etc etc The beauty of Trainz is that, as the session creator, you control everything - you just have to learn how to tweak each little bit first.

Perhaps your best bet is to start off with a small branch route - one of angelah's perhaps (search for Username "angelah" on the DLS) would be good for starters and start off just operating a couple of trains and working up to creating the sessions you want.

Thackalane's SCS2006 (available on the DLS) , writes scenarios for TRS2006 !

I suspect that it produces driver sessions which are made to look as similar to scenarios as possible. That how RBR produces activities for TRS2006.

SCS is an excellent piece of work, highly recommended.

Thanks a lot for telling me about SCS2006. I've just been messing about with it as it's been a horrible wet day and got quite a simple session going in TRS2009 with it.

There is quite a learning curve to this, but it really is fascinating. In my opinion, watching a shunter hard at work while you're sitting in the station waiting for your psddengers to alight, and then seeing a down express thunder through brings it all to life!

SCS Where to find it?

I'm interested in the SCS system (if it will work with TC3) but I cannot find any mention of it on the TPR website. I'd appreciate a little guidance!
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Hi

SCS2006 works with all versions fromm 2006 to 2009. There is a forum for it on the TPR website which contains a lot of information.

http://www.trainzproroutes.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=48&sid=b058a3ff0a5e67ce98c49f36d2c8e1af

I'm currently programming the 1957 timetable for Carlisle station using part of the S&C route in TC3 and as is mentioned above it's fascinating to watch all the activity in the station as trains come and go. It is a steep learning curve but if you decide to try it and need any help just post on here or in the TPR forum and either myself or someone else will give you assistance.

Regards

Brian

In addition ,

If one downloads all the required sub programs as stated by Thackalane , one can create the ' Old school ' scenarios , (not simply sessions ) !
There is a steep learning curve , and I suggest printing out the tutorial .

Thackalane is working very hard on an SCS for TS2009 , but until the Trainz version is finalized , it is in the future , (soon(tm)) !
