Hay guys
before laying track down, Is there any way to make a raised area to put your track on, for long lengths at a time, If it is straight, instead of using the u shaped shaper thingy? thanks

I'm not sure how much you want to raise your track (or exactly what you are trying to do), but if you lay your track, use the height adjust tool in the track tab to raise your tracks to the height you want, then use the smooth splines tool in the track tab to raise the ground to your track.

Thank You Scott,
Just trying to raise the track a little bit and make a ditch on both sides. I guess you would say like most RR tracks.
I wanted to do this, for quite a long way. Is there a way to do this that's easier ?

The only other way I can think of is if you use a track with a LOT of ballast underneath it: Jointed Rail's track has a version that ends in (terrain)- this track lays at the same height as the regular version, but it has a REALLY tall ballast pile under it that goes way down in the ground. If you make a depression and lay it down the middle and raise the height of it, it will be sitting on a big pile of ballast. If my description doesn't really seem to make sense, download it and see what I mean. (I'm not using my Trainz machine so I can't do any screenshots) Best idea I can come up with.

I tried to make a raised but flat area for a high-level station without raising the terrain. To do this, I made an area of the correct size using TACS/GMax, textured it as required, and raised it to the correct height. I then laid the required track on it, raising the splines to the same height - a bit of a fiddle, but it worked, and provided the area of the raised asset was large enough, a complete station could be laid down. In the same way, platforms and buildings etc. could be raised to the same height for placing.

The raised base thus created need be no more than a single-sided plane, all of two polys, with the texture used 'tiled' to look right.

This could perhaps be of use in creating a narrow, raised area for straight track with the ditch on each side?

One way you could try is to raise the track as suggested then lay another track each side where you want the drain and lower that, then remove the track. Often this method is used to create smooth contours beside tracks.
Cheers,
Mike

If tracks are close together (5-20m), a wall can be used to conceal the raised embankment.

I like: Concrete_Bank_Spline as it resembles the river channel walls of the Conemaugh river flood plain in Johnstown Pa.

Some Embankment/Fill tracks have a upside down "U" shape.
