Makes one wonder in a sense why to bother!

Nearby in this forum section I intimated the latest news on myr rail project for a country I do not even live in but have flown over twice to take notes on the build. It is a big effort I am doing and the latest slideshow ill show why it is taking such a while with breaks. And the result? - two comments! Obviously I appreciate what they said but is it just some fast ready made thing with scant notice of the actuality or what?

No-one has attempted to do what I have already done on the island of Ireland and in the detail. A long time back I got a postive email from someone in Ulster who was pleased at what he saw done for that place and instantly recognised the stations and areas due to my effort on comparisons. In most things in my life and work I have been a strong person to see to things and Trainz is the same but thinking people will wonder why spend time on details when so many just want something done fast and get by with anything because it is a line or place they like? Now I am doing three lines in Eire and tracks radiating out from Dublin which as I stated gives a complete opportunity to extend to every rail destination in that country. And the encouraging result? Two people.

And before someone comes out with thin skinned that has never been part of me in whatever capacity of my work, life and voluntary effort. Having spent what I have going over there to get that island into a prominent place in the Trainz world someone weaker would not have bothered their shirt! For now I will continue plodding north of Drogheda to Dundalk then meet up with my NIRailway scenery at the Border. When done there will be a whole bunch of lines that will give a big system for that corner of the world and I will be musing to see how many who cannot note it get round to downloading this massive project.

Maybe we are morphing into simple quick efforts as time goes on......?

ps. Now planning my third trip over there!

Why bother?

Because it's something you find enjoyable. :)

One needs no other reason to justify such undertakings. If it pleases you, do it. :D

Bobby - I think you have to accept as noted above, much appreciation these days is "silent". Also screenshots are great but anyone with an interest in the prototype would much rather get their hands on the real thing and take it for a drive...

These days I rarely announce what I'm working on before release, if only because half of it evaporates into vapourware and when I do release something (like my recent "might have been" Scottish route) I play it low key as attracting the wrong type of feedback can be just as disheartening as none at all.

With the future of Trainz balancing on a knife edge (over dramatic probably), attention is concentrated on the means of creation rather than the products.

I haven't used Trainz in months (Elite Dangerous may have something to do with this) but I'm waiting for a usable MacTANE. As you will probably appreciate, if there is no SP1 for Windows yet, then there will most certainly not be a SP1 for MacTANE.

Rjhowie, that the reality - and not just for Trainz. Vern is correct. The majority of those who would be interested will be silent. Why would anyone stick their neck out and offer an opinion or even praise - the net is a dangerous place, some idiot or troll will just rubbish you. Even official customer surveys, the ones that offer rewards for posting, will often have trouble getting decent response figures.

I create layouts and sessions because I enjoy making them. I never announce anything before it is uploaded to the DLS. The feedback I get (so far always positive) is a tiny fraction (1% or less) of the users who downloaded the assets.

Keep on doing it for your own interest - not to please others.

yes , do it for the love of the thing, i think that because its now so easy to get something for nothing on the net and so much of something for nothing , that people are now jaded . i have even noticed it when going to music concerts, many people can't even be bothered to applaud when they have just been treated to the most amazing playing and after they have paid over a hundred bucks to attend ( even worse are those who talk all the way through the show, you wonder why they bother to go in the first place .

So its not only in these forums, i do a lot of high quality remixing audio work and many people download the end results, but thanks are rare ,i'm used to uploading something i worked on for weeks and getting no response at all.its usually the same folks who say thanks ....

Anyway, a HUGE thank you to ANYONE who creates content . especially steam locomotives . having played around in various 3d programs i know how many hours you have put into the product , it is MUCH appreciated !

Yes you do have a general pointnere pware and agree with the thinking. There have been occasional times when someone puts scenes of something, well rather basic and there are those with a wow reaction. But to be honest that is part of the general scene as well! As for me personally, I am certainly not thin skinned in fact I met a woman I went with years ago in a supermarket cafe here in Glasgow who has been lig married. She nicely introduced her grown up daughter and said to her that we had been together years ago and that I was the biggest eccentric she ever went out with.

For me this was just a passing reflection on what is is of course. Mind you I doubt that many Trainzers have actually made a point of flying to another place altogether just fr Trainz. Hhhm, maybe Ellen was right because my late mother once said that to a neighbour. So if going to my travelling effort in a build I don't really mind the label much.

You are not alone in being a Trainzer-eccentric, Bobby. I think we all are to a certain extent and I sure know I am. I traveled to Pennsylvania with another Trainz user to scope out the old colliery operations there a few years ago. Then starting a couple of years ago, I've been traveling to North Adams Massachusetts with Steamboateng as he and I work on the Hoosac Tunnel. Relationships too are similar. My head gets wrapped around other things, like a Trainz route, and I forget the other more important things. :)

In my former job in Education work I once went into the office John, pumped down at my desk and looked down as I pulled the chair in. When I started to groan someone asked me what was wrong and I said I would have to go home as I visited homes and someone might notice that because in a hurry I had put a slip on shoe on one foot and a lace-up one on the other! Everyone including my boss went into laughter. In my working life I have always got on with people and in many a leadership role in organisations and people say years later they have never forgot me so I tend to look positive on such attitudes (!).

You are probably so right John about we here in the Trainz world being, well different and a few years ago I mentioned that I had carefully put off taking a charming lady friend for a meal as I was determined to solve a frustrating problem that was holding a build up. Thankfully I did not have to explain the change of night and knowing me for years was a help.......

I did a similar thing. I had on one brown and one black shoe one day and didn't notice until a coworker mentioned something to me. I was horrified of course! It got better... He said he wouldn't say anything if I treated him to lunch, which I did at the café across the street.

I also got along with the C-level management and even got awards for my attitude as well because I treated them just like everyone else when it came to tech support. I even got a call from a VP who wasn't even part of our organization one day, and not even supported by my team. His support group left at 5:00 pm promptly every day, and I always stayed late to finish up paperwork and avoid the horrid traffic. He called over in desperation and I had to trudge over to the building across the parking lot. This didn't go unforgotten and I became known as the go-to person from that point on, and would receive calls from people out in the field as well as in the office. In the end I supported 680 internal people plus 27 field representatives. Eventually, the field guys were forced to use the "other team", but up to that point they enjoyed their tech support.

Uh-oh John. We might be thousands of miles away but something on common. Once when off work with the 'Flue and came back in due course the officer in my edcation office who covered my home visits to parents told me of an incident. She had went to a door of one of my regular visits and the woman frowned at t here saying the person at the door wasn't her usual one. Then she said to the education officer"My usual one is that man with the glasses - you know the one who is not the full shilling?" Seems my associate had to stifle laughing as she knew my different ways. A couple of weeks later when I had to visit the house on my rounds I asked the woman directly why she had said to my friend that I wasn't the full shilling. She looked vacant for a minute and then said happily, "oh it is okay Mr, I meant it a nice way in no' being the full shilling."

Now must shortly get back to a quick plan of a short trip over the Irish Sea again. One thing Irish and Northern Irish rain has in common with Scotland is they are all the same! Having had rain for weeks it is a pity the downpours are not different!

I've also been to work with one brown and one black shoe, after getting dressed in the dark (to avoid waking the wife). Did an eight hour day in a big open-plan office and only realised what I'd done when I was walking out of the office to go to the car park! I asked the following day if anyone had noticed anything odd about me, and nobody had spotted it.

It can be a bit disappointing to post an announcement on here and be greeted by deafening silence, but I'm also guilty of not praising much of the fantastic creations made by others. I make what I want for my own satisfaction, and if others enjoy it it's a bonus.

Rjhowie- your route looks great, btw.

Wearing your pants over your trousers and odd coloured socks is a trainz "thing". Same as pullover inside out (outside in as you will). I managed to go to work in my slippers once. Getting ready for work, noticed dog had vanished, went looking for dog, found dog, castigated dog, went to work in a rush.... Oh well.

Sheepish grin and regards

Re your positive comment rumour. It is much appreciated and I do hope that (as the pics show the effort from a distance base!) when done this big effort on modern Ireland on both sides of the border is a positive thing.
