Major concerns regarding Trainz background processes

As do I. They are just not handling callsbacks properly -or- they are missing them entirely which causes the disconnects we see.

Bill

Hmm.... well I'm not getting the problems 3 PC's and have TC3 2009 2010 and TS12 started my route in 2009 and it's moved with zero problems up to TS12. The trouble with this sort of problem is getting to the root cause, yes it may as Shane suggests due to the background programs, however it could be due to 1001 other things as well, need to be possibly looking for the common factor other than having Trainz installed.

A question, anyone having anything similar happening in TS Mac?

I'd be interested to know this as well, as it seems to be a bit of a coincidence that the issues only appear to be in TS2009 SP4 and later versions.

Shane

I am still trying to figure out why when I install via FTP links and 3rd party assets why CMP keeps running accelerated texture compression yet, I have unchecked so it does not do that..

Being somewhat of an optimist it's just possible that the long overdue "soon" service pack may fix this problem.

Just to be clear, I saw a download problem both on TS2009 (all service packs) and TS12. Roughly anything over 1MB did not finish, I had to get it from DLS manually through a browser. Currently I have a short FCT active, no problems at all.

So it is not my computer else it would happen all the time. There is a difference (for me) between non-FCT and FCT downloading.

There is a difference, but as detailed above there are still issues directly caused by the background processes.

I'm suprised N3V haven't commented in this thread yet, as it would be prudent for them to do so.

Shane

Maybe they already know about it, but can't say anything but "it will be fixed 'soon'"? I know that doesn't sit too well with the more technically oriented Trainzers.

Bill

Lets just say that there are technically orientated and experienced Trainzers involved in testing, who don't tend to announce it publicly, I was until a couple of months ago, don't assume that just because N3V haven't posted that they are not aware of this thread, if they haven't read it on here they will have probably been told anyway.

They probably do, but things are now getting worse with the issue so they really need to prioritise.

Shane

At the very least, the powers that be could post here:

1) Yes, we know and we are looking into it

2) Stiff cheddar, you are on your own as we have much better things to do

3) Well, if this thread get too heavy, we can always lock it

4) We really do not know why but we are working already on the next exciting version of TS XX

Or some such but I would not hold my breath too long waiting for an answer. You might get the idea that I could be a little cynical but why should I be after only up to 18 months of having downloading issues and still waiting for a remedy or solution?

Does anyone still remember the good old days (TRS04-06 and even TC1 days) when having any d/load issues from the black DL pages, one could at least log problem free into a dedicated FTP server with ALL listings there to be plainly seen and to d/load from via FTP. No sweat, no hassles, no CM to mangle things. The current FTP d/loading IS different.

Cheers

I suspect you can blame the dodgy Trainz site from the Eastern Block that copied the contents of the DLS ftp server to theirs and made it available to all comers for that being changed. Was reported at the time and has since gone or is more likely now well hidden. I think Shane will remember what I'm on about.

As a matter of fact, I do. It was one of the Russian sites, but I cannot remember off-hand which one it was.

If I may share my testimony on this subject, I tend to experience it most often in Surveyor. The game would hang sometimes when switching object menus, and then it would hang randomly, in each case for 15 seconds or more. It seems to be unconnected to the number of high-poly objects, bridge/tunnel splines, vehicles, and SpeedTreez I have in the layout. These freezes happen even though TrainzOptions.txt has the program configured to run at a constant 25 fps on my laptop.

When in Surveyor, you can probably hang the hesitations to the Auro-Save "feature". To verify this, go into the options and change the auto-save interval. If the time between hangups increases (or decreases, depending on which way you went), then you've found your culprit.

I have a feeling that somehow the Auto-Save is involved also in Driver, possibly to save the current Session in case you want to exit.

It does depend on when it happens. I have heard of reports of pauses when changing tabs, which can be attributed to TADDaemon.

Shane

Changing from any tab other than Content to the Content tab WILL cause a delay. In 2010 it was a huge delay lasting sometimes as long as 30 seconds. That time has been shortened in 2012, but not by much. In my 2010 and 2012, changing to the Textures tab will also cause a long delay (around 10 seconds). During that time TADDaemon's slice of CPU goes up quite a bit.
