M.I.N. Again

Get over it
Ok, I've done this a couple hundred times but now I'm either having a brain freeze or somethings wrong. I'm trying to load two different products, pallet of goods & general goods, using MIN. They both have a maximum of 256 which I set. I assign 30 items for each product that is available to load. I should have 196 items still available. The problem is that only one product shows the 30 items. No matter what I do I cannot change the number from 0 to whatever for the next product. Yes, I have rolling stock already placed on the route. I have looked at various tutorials but I cannot see what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions?

I'm doing this from memory.

Try going to the final set-up screen, the one on the far right, and change the units used with the particular product. I think there is a choice of items, tones, liters or some such.

If you don't get it correct you can be stuck on zero.

Phil

Phil, I've always used items as my choice and never had any problems but I tried your suggestion and got the same results. With a maximum amount of 256 for each product I should be able to load 128 items of each product but I can only enter that number for one product. I keep getting 0 for the other product. I may have to try LARS. This one has me scratching my head. Thanks.

Have you got the 2 products sharing the same Queue on the Queues Tab?

You may find that sharing the same Queue they are limited to 256 in total, so each Product is limited to 128. That is the only thing I can think off right now that it might be.

I had the same problem. Finally I realized that if you use the same queue, the second item can't be configured properly. Now I use one commodity per queue. MIN is tricky to configure and not user friendly. The worst thing is that each commodity can be loaded to only one type of car, as selected on the last tab. It should be able to load any car configured for that particular commodity.

" ... each commodity can be loaded to only one type of car, as selected on the last tab. It should be able to load any car configured for that particular commodity."

Actually that's not correct. I used to think it was the case, until I tried an experiment. You will find that all freight cars that are configured to accept the product will load it from a MIN.

We may be here onto something! On my 09, and for that matter since MIN started, I go through selecting the commodity, deciding if it will load and or unload, the size, and at the end (tab) I have the choice of the car it will unload, none or one from the list. Select the one I want and if I bring another car, it will not do anything. So what am I doing wrong so that any car (configured for that commodity) will load or unload? I need to know as it is one of the last inconveniencies I have.

I may be totally wrong here but have you tried loading less than 128 per car? (i.e. less than half the supposed maximum)

The reason I'm thinking this is - it is easy for a programmer (scripter) to write code where a total is calculated from zero rather than one (or vice versa) thus throwing the total count out. This can have unexpected side effects.

Just an off the wall thought......

Thanks everyone for responding. I've already tried every suggestion before they were posted and I'm not having any success. Phil is correct, you can set up most rolling stock to accept an item.
IIebrez or anyone who knows, I put the second product in queue 2 but the train is only picking up the first product and ignoring the second. Is there something different that I have to do when using two queues? Example: Pallet of Goods in queue 1 and General Gooods in queue 2. Drive to M.I.N. and load. Only loads queue 1. What am I doing wrong?

Hi stouthm,
I have a small one board demo using MINs which I sent to Louise_T but have not heard back from her. If you send me a PM I can send it to you. It is setup in TRS2004 but should work in other versions, so let me know which version you are using.

Cheers,

What you will probably find is that the train is loading with the first Product until it runs out, no more in storage, then it will or should start loading the second Product. The only way around this I can think of right now would be to use 2 different wagons configured for each Product, make sure 1 cannot load Pallet of Goods and the other cannot load General Goods.

This way the first wagon will only load Pallet of Goods and the second wagon will only load General Goods, you can remove a Product from a wagons queue in Surveyor, it will be saved in the Session, it is not a 'permanent' remove.

I have not setup a M.I.N to do something like this before, I will have a play tonight and see what I come up with.

OK - lets see if we can figure this out.

You have a MIN that you have now, we think, correctly configured to produce "Pallet of Goods" in queue 1 and "General Goods" in queue 2.

Two quick questions:

Which version of Trainz are you using? (it should not make a difference but if it is TRS2004 I can mock up a demo very quickly using one of the built-in routes).

Which freight car are you using to carry the Pallet of Goods and General Goods?

Phil

Well what do you know, I got the two queues to work. I went into the game to see what rolling stock I was using for Phil's request and just to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid I tried everything again and it worked. The only thing I can think of for the previous problems is I did see a script error and it gave me a choice of aborting or continuing. I chose to continue and it seemed to be working ok and I forgot about the script error.

Sorry for putting everyone through so much trouble. I still don't understand why I can't put two products in the same queue. I've done it many times on the routes I have built or downloaded with no problems. Just one of those quirks in the game. Again, sorry for all the trouble I've caused.

Phil, just for the record I use 06.
