Low friction rule

Hello all.

Coming back from Hereford to Manchester last night on the 17:35 ex-Cardiff Central service, I noticed just how bad the wheelspin problems were on departure from Hereford, Leominster, Ludlow, Shrewsbury and a few of the smaller stations towards Crewe. It was very fun! I was wondering, is there a rule that can simulate this in any way? I love the revving up and down of a DMU as the wheels spin then grip again. It sounded so fun on a 175 (even better on a 142 though!)

There are physics rules which are built into Trainz. I'm not sure what the levels are but they do mimic wheel slip. What you were experiencing was probably due to wet leaves on the tracks.

I think it was wet leaves, it always happens this time of the year. I was just wondering if there was a rule that could be applied that would reduce the friction values whilst the rule was activated. I guess this wouldn't be possible though

You can add to your session the EIRS (Environmental Impact Random Seasonal) Weather Rule, <KUID2:487222:1037:3>.

This rule will reduce friction values in case of rain and snow.

The Traction Effort Reduction feature is not a constant behavior when using the EIRS Weather Rule. It will only occur on a "chance" basis during rain or snow. I could create a stand alone customizable traction reduction rule which will allow the user to modify the reduction rate since the results vary with each train's engine spec.

Wow, you'd actually create a rule just for one request? If you have any free time then I can not tell you how grateful I am to at least have a go! I have a feeling it would prove quite popular, especially around now when the weather is colder and in Autumn when there are leaves on the ground!

My decision is not based off one request, I have had several since last year. I planned on revising the EIRS Weather Rule during 2013, to add different regional settings, modify behaviors, and add more efficient code. However, I got involved with programming NYCTA Grade Timing Signals which dedicated all my time allowed for that year. So what you requested was already (in a way) on the drawing table. Since the EIRS Rule has the code for TER, a stand alone rule would not be difficult.

FYI: Any asset I create will always be posted on the Freeware Announcement Forums.
