lost launcher

I keep doing these things don't I. My wife says "don't you ever read anything before you click OK" The result is that nasty Babylon. (a virus that is not a virus) I got rid of that allright and now I've lost my launcher for 2012. I must have done my dreaded clicking again and I have no idea what I was trying to do considering that everything was working fine. She has threatened a visit to a mental health centre and I told her "no probs, The guys will tell me what to do".So here's the question. How do I put the launcher back in bin? I tried to look at files on the disk but it's not there or can't be read. OK you blokes. Help a dummy. baz

Once you've checked the recycle bin and according to your missus the looney bin, if it's not in either try this. Click start, computer. Open the drive 2012 is on, open TS12 folder, scroll down. You will see trainz, looking across you will see application 76 kb. R/click on the icon and send a shortcut to desktop.

The launcher is gone. It's dead. Gone to a greater place which isn't the looney bin.Very good Fran. I have added a icon for CM and launch 12 thru that. I even tried to use the 10 launcher by renaming it.OK I was desperate. Can I get it back with the disk somehow?BAZ

Did you check the TS12 folder, what your looking for is a mini sized screen launcher. It's or should be 5th from the bottom of the folder.

Launcher.exe is in the TS12\Bin folder.
If it is not there, just do a re-install to a separate folder and you will have two installations of TS12. You can then copy the Launcher.exe file from the new install to the old. That way, you don't lose anything when you re-install. Just make sure you do not accept the default folder on the new install, and that your shortcuts point to the old, not the new install.

As for Babylon. It is very difficult to clean out. You also need to clean it from your system's registry.
To do that, I recommend Resplendence registry manager. You can DL the free edition here: http://www.resplendence.com/downloads. Download free home edition. Aside from the pesky prompts to upgrade to pro edition, the free works fine.
Once you run the registry manager, do a search of the entire registry for "babylon" (without the quotes). As far as I know, there should not be anything with that name on your system. If the search returns anything, delete all of them, then restart your system.
If by any chance you do have a legitimate app named babylon, uninstall it before doing the registry search, then after you're done, re-install the legit app.
My brother had some trouble on his system several months ago, and it took quite a bit of "search and destroy" to get rid of it.
There is probably an easier method to rid your system of babylon, but be careful when downloading and running anything you get online. There are lots of lost souls who would love to see your system crash and burn, and would write some code that looks like a babylon removal tool, only to install something even worse!
I am currently running Norton Internet Security 2012, so I feel pretty safe. I also pay very close attention to where I am and what I am downloading on the web.
In addition, in Windows vista and later, you should set your UAC - User Access Controls to warn you of any program that wants to make changes to your computer.
Another good practice is to set up a different user for web access. This user must have only limited privileges, not admin, so they cannot install anything. I'm not certain whether this will stop something like babylon from being installed though.

Happy Trainzing!

AH FW. Your advice is so similar to hers that I wonder if you are not in collaboration with her. Tell me the truth. Did she contact you???Fran That's OK. Are you getting old too? Thanks for the advice. I'm quite happy to leave it at the moment. I've learnt now what the old saying. If it's not broke, don't fix it.Have a happy (40degree) day.baz

No collaboration <g>. Just my experience. TS has always been easy to do re-install without losing content. Not a lot of registry entries like some apps.

That is true - the only entries Trainz uses are file association entries for CDP, CDP2, CMPA, and the trainz:// protocol (all of which can be set using my Trainz Protocol Changer).

EDIT: Only exception is TRS2006, which stored Content Manager settings in the registry too.
