Looking..looking

Hello any crazy canuks or Canadian fans (not the hockey team); there is an item I saw, I think I even downloaded it, but it's hiding. I don't know the kuid number, or author. I've looked at other sites and in my content manager and the DLS, and just can't seem to find it. It's a yellow bumper or buffer. I'm sure it was described as being Canadian or CN or CP. There is an American model that I may end up using if I can't get my hands on the one I'm looking for. It will serve the purpose. If I ever get my paws on it, I'm putting it in a place where I can find it!

Thanks, cheers.......Rick

Rick,

There's the Bumper CF which means Canadian Foundry. Is this the one you're looking for? It's under the trackside objects, and is built-in.

John

Hey, thanks guys, That Bumper CF sounds promising. The others sound like the ones I was going to use if needed. I would think that Bumper CF would have shown up when I was searching. Thanks again, I'm off to have a look.

Cheers....Rick

In addition to "bumper", also use "buffer" and "rail end" for search terms, many bumpers aren't called bumpers. I did a reskin of the built in
Signal Rail End USA,<kuid:-1:110007>
with the wood painted yellow and the buffer force increased to 9 so you can hit it harder without derailing,
297 Signal_Rail_End_USA,<kuid:522774:100142>

Well I'll be jiggered! I could have sworn I edited that post above. Anyway, the one John was talking about is not the same. The U.S. ones that cascade mentioned are a good replacement. Thanks Sniper, I'll try searching with "rail end", etc. I'm just about bumpered and buffered out! As I mentioned in my phantom edit, I may have found it somewhere before TS12 even arrived in my mail box. I'm checking my other pc in a few minutes, just in case it's in the downloads. I'm wasting too much route building time. This day is pretty well shot, I'll do a bit more searching.

Thanks fellas, cheers....Rick

I've had that happen with the forums too. Perhaps we post so much here that we think that we've posted. :)

In the pull-out for trackside objects, type in Bumper and press the spacebar. This will bring up assets with bumper in it. You'll then see Bumper USA Dark Rusty, Bumper USA Yellow New, etc.
The buffers are more European, and don't quite look North American enough. The CF bumpers are great objects, and I really thought this was something you were looking for. I use them in my passenger stations because they look similar to the ones in Boston's North Station at the platform ends. The other bumpers, like the ones you are looking for, are great for freight sidings. I use the new grey ones for new industrial sidings, and old dark rusty ones for the yards where they would be exposed to more air for much longer.

I hope this helps find what you're looking for.

Good morning John; The bumper you mentioned indeed looks like something we would see in the Halifax passenger station. I don't even know what it looks like over there now. I'm pretty sure the only trains you can get on leave from Halifax and head west. The last local passenger service stopped running years ago. The Dominion Atlantic ( C.P.) had one of those fancy powered passenger cars (I forget what ya call the darn things, have no interest in them) running from here to Yarmouth. It was awful, you stopped for a "meal" along the way, paid for a crappy ham and cheese sandwich, and got back on the train. I took this train a few times to Cornwallis, which used to be where we took our basic training. That base, like a lot of places around here, shut down. They might have been the DAR's last reason for running that train.

I think I found that bumper you're talking about under bumper CIF, something like that. I do like the U.S. bumpers a lot, they look good and a good variety to use. The C.N. model I "saw and downloaded" really stood out to me. It was bang on. It looked like 2 triangles, one on each rail, with a bar connecting them. The triangles were at 90 degrees, straight up from the rails. I'm beginning to think perhaps I've reached that age when your brain starts to play tricks on you! I discovered that you could type what you wanted to find in the surveyor pull-out a couple of weeks ago. Boy, I was getting tired of looking through that whole list! Someday, if this was not some kind of pipe dream, I'll run across it again, and replace the ones I have now.

Thanks you and the others, cheers.....Rick

.....All right Reid, make sure you click the dang "send box" this time

Hi Rick,

You can always replace assets later if you find something better. You wouldn't believe how many times I've done that already. :)

For narrowing down your search, you can actually use the filter. This appears like a tiny funnel on the menu bar in Surveyor. You can then type a name in the top part, and when you choose the pull out on the right for tracks and track-side for example, your items that contain part of the name will appear. There are other options too such as name, author, kuid, etc. You add these in by pressing the + and building the query very much like you do in Content Manager. This will save you from scrolling through the whole list to find what you're looking for.

The CN bumpers look great. There are something I somehow inherited from somewhere called Hays Bumpers? They look very much like the ones you described.

I looked at the Halifax passenger terminal the other day on Bing. I've never seen it in person, but it looks pretty stripped down and barren, and not what I would expect for such a big city. It's sad how the railroads were reduced to second class by our society. In the 1960s the Gull used to run from Halifax to Boston. I remember seeing the E-units at North Station in Boston when I was a kid. I would be so enthralled at seeing something different in the station besides Budd Liners! It's too bad that that train hasn't come back to service.

John

Morning guys; Sorry I missed seeing this.

Warhorse, that's pretty close. The "triangles" were not solid, but that bar joining them looks about the same. Thanks for showing me that.

John, yeah I'm still figuring out how to search, I'll try these tips out. Halifax used to be a busy spot. I think since WW2 it started slowing down. Lots of folks from other countries would hop off a ship, maybe stay at the hotel, and head to parts unknown on the train. I don't think I've poked around over there since the 90's. I've seen old photos where it looked like a real big city station. When I was 3 or 4 years old my mother took me to Toronto on the train. I know it was hauled by a steam loco, because I could see it on some of the curves. My mother still had a kid's menu from that trip, and I found it in some of the stuff she left to me when she passed on. Funny some of the things our moms hold on to. Good old ma!

Thanks fellas, cheers.....Rick
