Looking for uk speed boards

Hi all been searching since 6am this morning for uk speed boards which can set two speeds ie 30-50 IIRC I've had them before, I also need the speed warning boards that do the same.

I know there is the payware version which does this but there must be a freeware version out there.

Cheers Rusty.

Although the Railwaves multiple speed signs display 2 or 3 speeds, they don't actually change consist speeds as they're a scripted scenery item. To make these work, I used the built in multiple speed track object. I can't remember the name but if you type in V2 in track objects, I'm sure that brings it up.

I've yet to see an alternative version of these signs on the DLS or as freeware but I could be wrong.

The Railwaves sign do change track speed if you use the a25 - sign permissible speed setting from the track-side tab.

it's a-case of inputting almost the same code again as for the scenery item...

I shall have a look for these sign though thanks.

VSB worked with a driver rule, both on the DLS.

Thanks for that I've had a look & seems ok but not quite what I'm after.

This is really what I'm after.

This is Railwaves version and although I'm doing 2 copies of the same route one with payware signals and signs and one freeware.

If I can't find or no one can suggest anything freeware like the above then I'll have to look into how the Railwaves one is set up and see if I can do something similar but hopefully only one sign instead of two...

Hi Russell.

I wasn't particularly clear about the Railwaves signals. What I meant is the actual speedboard you see (the scenery element) doesn't affect the line speed. I realise the track object A25 does that job. I didn't realise you actually had the Railwaves pack. The item you need is Invisible Speed-Signal v2 (TRS2004 SP2) kuid2:137715:23002:2. You'll find it under the track objects section.

This will allow you to add up to 3 limits which you can set either for train priority, junction direction of a combination of both.

Hope this helps.

Thanks pfx now I know what I'm looking for I'll have a look.

Still need to find the a scenery speed board like the Railwaves one.

Cheers Rusty

Good luck with that. I would love to find some myself so please let us know if you come across something like that. It would be great to have such a thing for use on a route that could be distributed.

I've got a few Ideas I just need to get in touch with a content creator about using there textures and hopefully there meshes rather than knocking up a whole new set but If I have to that's not a problem...

I'll Keep you posted.

UK speed signs should be built in, they are called either UK SPEED BOARDS, or UK SPEED SIGNS, they are built in from Trainz 2010 onwards.

Hope this helps

Yes these are but not there are not what we/I are looking for.
We need something to display more than one speed at a time.

Cheers Rusty.

pfx I've knocked a quick sign mesh up tonight and have been playing with the script, I've got as far as getting it in game and showing the div board. I'll tinker some more tomorrow but will have more time at the weekend..

Here's two screens showing the sign so far.

It's going to be in the track-side tab for easy placement (hopefully)..
But will hopefully function in a similar way to the Railwaves scenery item.

Hi Rusty.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but just so I'm clear, your signs will be trackside objects that will be scripted to show user changeable speeds, but won't actually affect the speed of trains?

Now that I've had a chance to think about it, there is actually a diverge board as a track object already. This matches an existing set of speed boards (which show only single speeds and do set track speed). It might be worth tracking it down and making your speed board match the diverge board. Could save some work on the scripting?

Unfortunately I can't remember who made it. I'll look into it when I'm back at home.

Cheers.

Something like that yes It might end up more like the Railwaves sign where by you need 2 I've looked at a few different scripts and think I get the basics of how they are put together.

I would rather try and set it up so the whole thing does control the speed as well but this will take more time.

Hopefully though I should have something working by the end of the weekend...

Cheers Rusty.

The seperate scenery type speed board and using the invisible speed signal has worked fine for me in the past and would probably present the easiest way to acheive the end result unless you are able to get the scripting done. I speak as a layman as I wouldn't have the faintest idea where to start...

The only problem with trainz is that there is no way to set up a differential speed board and get it to apply to specific trains .

On the real railway there is the possibility of having at least 4 different speeds being indicated on 2 boards on the same post :

1: freight speed (class 4,5,6,7,8)
Over
2: Speed for Class 1,2,3 and 9 Non EPS trains
with a further board underneath showing

3: EPS speed applicable to tilting 221 units
Over
4 :EPS speed applicable to Class 390 units

With the other possibilities of prefixes belonging to : DMU , EMU , Sprinter , HST etc

**EPS=Enhanced permissible speed***

How would you get these to apply to applicable trains in Trainz ?

Hi nexus.

I agree with your reasoning. That is why I would go for the invisible speed signal. I realise it can only ever cover 3 absolute limits but that's better than one.

As a rule, I set up the following priorities which admittedly is very much simplified but I've tried it with great success.

Frieght 3
Commuter 2
Express 1

The Invisible speed signal can deal with this and also junctions with slower limits, which makes it ideal for the task and I think, may be the best option for multiple limits on one line. I'm more than happy to find out if there's something better still.

If Rusty's speed signs are going to work in more or less the same way as the Railwaves ones, it offers good flexibility over what is currently available. I'm always for the expansion of modern UK image assets.
