Looking for snowbanks

Does anyone have any idea where I can locate snowbanks? My hunt is specifically for snow thrown/plowed up from the use of highway snowplows. My winter route can really use some at the side of the road.

Raise the terrain into little humps and texture them with a snow texture.

Not enough fine control of where the "humps" appear. Tried it, but it looks really screwy. And, the entire route is already covered with 'snow' textures so the humps wouldn't necessarily show up well enough anyway. Good thought though. Thanks.

Splines would be the best.

Any good?

Bill,

Have you experimented with textures, road types and time of day settings?

This uses just a single texture ger snow01 <kuid-1:100684> with a few changes in rotation, some done whilst spinning, other bits rotated but laid in the stopped position (mainly on smallest scale).

The road is one of the ragged edged type, which gives a more realistic transition to the textured area, and arguably gives the impression of a road which has been cleared.

Early and late time of day setting will provide more shading relief and lift the scene a little from the flatter white-out you get at the middle of the day.

Cheers
Casper

Nice scene, but I think he's looking for real banks of snow like we get here in the winter. (When we have snow). More like this:

Bingo! Yes, John. That is exactly what I'm looking for. A spline that I can run down the sides of a snowy road. The countryside I'm working with has very gently rolling hills and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to see drifting down in the little vales. A snowplow would cut through it and pile it up at the side.

Hello Hiballer,
I am willing to put something together for you in gmax. If you need it for 2010 and up I'll have to figure out how to do that as they do not accept gmax. Good idea, as I model the C&NW in Iowa I could use this my self as there is several good snow plow models on the DLS. Though I need a 1950's snow plow, which I will have to model myself. Will have to search for the right texture as snow plowed off a road is anything but clean. So if you are interested reply to this post in private message and we will exchange e-mails so we can collaborate on this.

Sorry but got to pick up on this. Gmax is accepted, plenty of us are using it for TS12 and uploading to the DLS. Gmax may not be supported by Discreet any longer, doesn't mean you can't use for Trainz especially with Pev's up to date exporter.

How high ?
{photos eliminated}

Eek! Not that high. I expect that most roads will have plows that can turn (curl up) snow to the side of the road at about the height of the horizontal scores in your pictures. Say 1M maximum with dips and gaps down to 6" or so. Dirty and full of rocks, leaves and twigs.

Still looking for plowed-up snowbanks. The pictures in JCitron's post (above) give some idea of what I have in mind. I'm thinking a spline with variable heights and some "debris" trapped in it from the side of the road like grass and small stones. They don't need to be very wide at all. Sort of what would be piled up from a city/country snowplow.
