The Maple Leaf Forever
Maybe us Canadians could learn something from the Germans. After all, there are thousands of trains in Germany every day and it's very rare that anyone gets hit.
In Nova Scotia about a year ago we had no less than TWO collisions in a day. One was on the CBNS (Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia) and one was on the VIA Rail Ocean between Truro & Halifax. This is REALLY troublesome because there are only maybe five trains a day at the most.
I, as a avid train buff, would never, never run the crossing. As far as I know, it's illegal in Canada.
I think that train safety is somewhat like bicycle safety: the more trains, the fewer collisions.
