Long Overdue Return & Questions

Hello Trainz community. Its been a long time since I last communicated with you guys. As many on here have stated, simply, life got in the way. But now things are slowing down and I will try to get back on here whenever possible. By the way, Yes, i do miss you guys.

Long story short, I recently started attending Universal technical Institute, or UTI, as of October 1st 2012. I'm going for Automotive & Diesel Industrial Technology. I am more interested in the diesel portion of the program, but having the education and certification in the Automotive industry gives me something to fall back on.
My long term goal is to end up working in a Diesel locomotive shop, that way I'll be killing two birds with one stone. I've always wanted to work with trains, and I've always wanted to be a diesel mechanic.

I revived my TS2010 today, only to find that since it has been sitting on the shelf collecting cob webs for quite some time, it needs a decent tune up. By this, I mean that, it has some major problems I've never encountered before.

Here are the main ones:

1. When playing in surveyor, if i place an object (i.e. a car), it doesn't appear. But if i spin the camera around to where the car wouldn't be in the field of view, then come back, its there. Same for splines, textures, and just about everything else.

2. The game saves fine, but once it exits to the desktop, i get a white screen, followed horizontal purple lines moving from the bottom of the screen to the top. When this happens, my only option is to hold the power button until the computer turns off, then turn it back on again. Each time this happens, my system runs CHKDSK, and then the computer boots up and everything is back to normal. How can I resolve this before something bad happens?

3. Every so often, about every 5-7 minutes, the game will freeze for 5-10 secs., then when it unfreezes, half or all of my objects/ scenery are gone.

Thanks

Hey Angelo,

Nice to see you here again. I'm glad you got your career path figured out, at least for now. :) Mine changed 6 times in 30 years, just to give you an idea of what can happen. ;)

I think you might need to run a database repair on your Trainz install.

Start up Content Manager.
Click on File menu
Choose Quick Database Repair.

If this doesn't work, try the Extended Database Repair afterwards.

You might have to remove any error messages afterwards. Sometimes items show up faulty, but they're not.
Highlight the items, right-click on them, and choose View Errors and Warnings.

Any false errors will disappear. If there are any truly bad items, they'll remain and you'll have to repair them.

John

Hey John good to hear from you. I will try that now, and reply back as to how it works out. Thanks man. Hows things going for you?

Good and bad, I suppose. I'm out of work due to some medical issues, but I get to sleep late and play with Trainz all day. :)

It feels funny not working after working a real job for close to 35 years. :)

John

Good morning John. Thanks for helping me out yesterday, trainz is up to par again, yet when i exited the game it crashed again.

And sorry to hear about your work situation, but at least you have something to do instead of going crazy.:)

I also will be online all day today, as it is raining here, so there is nothing to do except sit down, have a cigarette, and play trainz

Crashing on exit...

I haven't seen that one in some time. What kind of errors are you getting? Try doing a print screen. You'll then have to host the image on Image Shack or some place like that and link to it. If that doesn't work, you can sometimes see them in the Event Viewer, which is part of Windows. They are not quite the same as what the game displays, but they do contain the same information.

Right-click on Computer (or My Computer in XP).
Choose Manage
Choose Event Viewer
Choose Windows Logs
Choose Applications.

The most recent event will be at the top. Look for any that have a red-colored ! next to them. When you click on the event, the info will show up in the screen below.
Highlight the text and press CTRL+C to copy. (Using the built-in Copy button is useless).
Press Ctrl+V to paste it in a notepad file, or paste it directly to a forum post.

By us seeing your error, this will help us help you. :)

See if you can quit smoking. Smoking is not good for you or your computer.

John

OK John Thanks. That was pretty interesting. Never knew the computer could do that:cool:
