Long deferred payware warning....

I know that most people are honest, content creaters too.

I was lucky in a way, I bought the marias pass, and it was great. they're slow to update, but what a route!

I had very little money, but a lot of people seemed to like the torontotrainz stuff.

I paid.

Then the scammer cuts off everyone. I never recieverd a route, or even an apolgy. Pigs dipped in ****.

It was only around 30 dollars, Petty theft, but the memory remains.

Welcome to the forums.

Have you actually checked your emails? Download links etc normally come via email.

Which site did you buy it from?

Shane

Yes , I had checked my email. BTW, this was about trainz 2006. When I said long deferred, I meant it!

I wish I had kept my emails. Part of the sub was that you had to request the route(s) that you wanted. I was going to to do some research and I ahd a years subscription. I figured I had time.

That's an interesting one - in cases like these it's best to keep correspondence, as this would also help identify where it's been bought from.

Shane

You are correct of course. I should have kept everything.

It really wasnt about the money, I wanted routes.

THis actually kept me from purchasing "murchison" and the extra scenery t the time. My loss, but what damage did Torontotrainz do?
He cost *them* money
It sounded too good. but there seemed to be no gatekeeper.

BTW, I was on the forums at the time. and so was TT.

From memory, the user sirgibby deals with the Murchinson addon pack, which is for TS2009/TS2010/TS12.

Regarding TorontoTrainz, that's the first time I've heard of that one, so I'm going to have to do some research.

Shane

Well. you are right, but again, I feel it cost sirgibby a sale. Meaning that I in that I was afraid to buy.

I'm not really as bitter as I seem, just "once burned , twice shy". I mean, it has been 6 years. And if it matters, I thin that TT was a legit site and creator for a while. I heard so much about his layouts. But I was burned. It stings.

this is wthe waybck machines's pic of the site.

It started off as freeware then asked for donations, then suddenly it became freeware that you could only get by paying money for it. The good side was a lot of buildings etc were created, the bad side was frame rates on normal machines were deadly. I think the whole team fell apart.

Murchinson started off as a freeware route that used some payware items. Later N3V packaged it as payware. I think it is one of the best layouts available for Trainz and if you get it direct from sirgibby http://www.trainzone.co.nz/TS_murchison2.htm he gets the full amount. However if you keep an eye on the N3V newsletter you'll see that N3V have been known to have sales.

I picked up Murchison back when Simulatorcentral.com first opened and had the 75% off fire sale. Got it for $5 (along with the complete JR heritage pack for $16, TS12 for about $10, and a few other things....what a hell of a deal!!). It IS an awesome route, and you won't regret buying it. If you are leery of buying it from Sirgibby, you can get it directly from N3V on their site.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience. I've bought from RRmods and Jointed Rail and have always had good buying experiences from them. Too bad you got burned. :(

Isn't that kind of like going into a restaurant 10 years ago, having a bad meal, and then refusing to eat at a restaurant ever again?

I was just running one of the sessions in Murchison, this morning, and that route is spectacular in my opinion. The work that must have gone into that route must have taken years.

I hate to say how much money I've lost dealing with various entities, and this was long before the internet. One was a reputable harpsichord builder who got sick and died in the middle of my build. That was back in 1985. I didn't put a lot of money down for the instrument, but it was enough to hurt. I was quite leery of purchasing a lot of things that needed to be built for me. In fact I avoided mail order, or later on the internet after that. Other times it was in stores. I'd purchasing something that turned out to be crap, returned it and never purchased that item again, or anything from that particular vendor. Sometimes I've dealt with crappy sales people and never shopped at that store. Much later, while working in higher levels in IT, I was able to pick and choose vendors. If I had bad experiences with one, I'd drop them. Lenovo lost $600K from me last year because of a stunt they pulled over a QC issue. When you buy 385 laptops a year, that adds up pretty fast. They didn't seem to care that their quality was poor. I took my business and went to Dell, just like that without question. They came pleading to me, asking why I left and I told them. I still won't buy a Lenovo machine, ever.

With the internet, there are more and more people around, so there's a bigger chance of getting hit. Then too there are cases, such as with TT, where they were really great at one time but as time goes on things happen just like with any store or vendor. Their heyday was before, and the stuff you get now is not the same, or in the case of the internet sales, they disappear quickly.

I can say that I've been lucky with the internet companies I deal with. Of course it's mostly for utilities and such, and stuff for Trainz, and then it's reputable people such as Jointed Rail, HP-Trainz, N3V, and a few others. I will tell you that the latest Marias Pass X is a really wonderful route. The HP-Trainz team did an awesome job. Sir Gibby's Murchison is by far an awesome route too. I agree he must've spent ages putting this together. I love my JR stuff. I use the locomotives all over the place now. Awesome, truly awesome quality that's worth purchasing. Like anything else, save the receipts in case something goes wrong.

It's part of dealing with stores and the public, I suppose. You live, learn, and go on. You don't know unless you tried it. I too have a list of restaurants I'd never go back to, knowing that their food is awful.

My suggestion is if you are going to purchase Murchison 2, then I would recommend you buy direct from Michael's (Sirgibby) site. http://www.trainzone.co.nz/index.htm - http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...Layouts-scenic-realism-to-immerse-yourself-in (that way, your not dealing with mid men/companies).

I personally know Michael and you wouldn't meet a more upstanding gentleman an scholar. (straight as a dye, who wouldn't rip anyone off)... If by chance, something did go wrong, you would be dealing direct with Michael, not some help-desk in Timbucktoo....

Robert2d6; 3500+ hours went into the original Murchison 2. At a guess, I'd say at least another 500-1000 plus hours have gone into it since, with the making of the 29 sessions, track updates, etc, etc for 09, 10, & 12...

Cheers, Mac...

Having dealt with Michael for many years I will also put in a wee endorsement.
You would go a long way to find a better person to deal with.
Murchison is an excellent route and well worth the money.
Just my humble opinion,
Frank
